Have got an extended shoot coming up utilizing an HPX-170, at least two Canon 5Ds cams, a Canon XHA1 and even some Flip HD cams with wide angle lenses thrown into the mix, all on the same set. Ultimate exhibition -- beyond Web -- is TV. Am trying to minimize severe brain damage & rendering in...
Odd thing I just encountered. Mistakenly shot in 1080i/24p (vs. 24pA) an interview situation consisting of three takes on an HPX170. Two takes were only a couple minutes long. Interview itself about an hour or so.
Check the P2 Cards in-camera and see the appropriate three thumbnail images...
Hey everyone. Just got a rather high profile gig to shoot an exterior, stationary subject from before dawn 'til nightfall. Am going to use an HPX, Canon 5dMII, and possibly an XLA1 for backup. It's a remote location with no power options beyond batteries (got about 20 hours worth) and an AC...

Odd thing. Bought a used 170 recently that didn't have the mic holder with it. Online retailers I've found that sold the mic holder indicate that the holder is the same one that fits a DVX. I happen to have a DVX, along with an extra DVX mic holder. Double-checked. The width between the...
Have successfully installed P2CMS, but it fails to open citing that it's "not supported by system." This particular system is OS 10.4.11, dual 2 GHz G5 w/4.5 GB ram. Quicktime v. 7.6.4 -- all within specs according to CMS installer.
Also tried it on a PowerBook and received the same error...
Reviewing some footage shot with A1 recently in a hotel meeting room without windows. Camera was b-roll, thankfully, and pretty much hand-held. I'm not certain what f-stop the cam-op was at but it appears that any rather speedy moving shots -- swipes, readjustments, etc. -- result in major...
Have a friend who has to shoot a mind numbing amount of lectures (200 solid hours+) and I'm unwilling to subject my cameras to that kind of wear. I suggested he buy the HV3 and capture directly to an external drive. Is it possible to do that with this camera and bypass going to tape at all...
Posted this over on the A1 threat as well. It's a series of trailers we recently did shooting on both the EX1 and A1. The project itself seems to have gone dormant, but I thought y'all might be interested in the footage...

Haven't popped in in a while, but wanted to give everybody a heads-up on my latest film, WE, THE SCREENWRITER. Finished just recently, after four frigging years of production, it's now about to make a limited festival circuit run before broadcast next year and ultimate distribution in the...
Hello all! Weird thing happened on shoot yesterday. Timecode was switched off in LCD & eye-piece monitors and replaced by what reads "FR," followed by a 1 thru 4 count.
Am in 24PA. Have tried various options in the settings menus and still can't turn it off and get timecode back up.
Any clues...
Hey guys. First post, though longtime follower of these informative threads.
Question: Anybody had any experience with an outfit called amvona.com? They sell gear under a name called Dyantran, ranging from muslin to tripods, booms, etc. Because their prices are sometimes too good to believe, I...
