HPX mic holder question...

Odd thing. Bought a used 170 recently that didn't have the mic holder with it. Online retailers I've found that sold the mic holder indicate that the holder is the same one that fits a DVX. I happen to have a DVX, along with an extra DVX mic holder. Double-checked. The width between the screws for the DVX mic holder is wider than that of the HPX.

Person I bought the HPX from found the mic holder that shipped (supposedly) with the camera and it too has the screw holes set too far apart for the camera.

Am I missing some adapter piece or something?

In any event, it would be better to use a true suspension system on the shoe. On cam mics are the mics of last resort.

i have a 100a and a 200a and they both are the same...maybe the 170 and 150 are slightly different. I dont currently have a 170, but it thought it was the same as the 200

Figured it out. Depending on configuration, I generally use the mic holder for a J-rod to attach additional gear -- wireless receivers, for example -- allowing me to devote the top shoe to something else. My DVX hadn't been used in a while and had the mic holder unattached. Looked at it again and there is, in fact, a little bridge piece that extends from the camera body and attaches to the mic holder. Its screw holes fit fine and, fortunately, I had an extra one so all is good again in the world.
