We, The Screenwriter...

Haven't popped in in a while, but wanted to give everybody a heads-up on my latest film, WE, THE SCREENWRITER. Finished just recently, after four frigging years of production, it's now about to make a limited festival circuit run before broadcast next year and ultimate distribution in the mainstream and educational markets.

The follow-up to my PBS doc, WE, THE WRITER, uniting 16 film and television writers for a richly entertaining and often surprisingly revealing dialogue, WE, THE SCREENWRITER explores the personality, process and profession of being a writer working in today's Hollywood.

The movie was made, specifically, for folk like those gathered here, at whatever level they may be in their writing career.

Offering a uniquely insider's perspective rife with practical information, among the array of issues addressed are: whether or not to "write what you know," the impact of screenwriting on personal relationships, spec vs. assignment writing, determining the final draft, the distinctions between film and TV writing, whom to trust for criticism, the writer's responsibilities, adaptation, rewriting, writing for market, outlining, what agents really do, dealing with studio notes, genre-writing, ageism, is talent necessary, which page is most important, who to write for and why, attitude, author's voice, pitching, constructing story, young executives, identity & validation, even whether screenwriting is a cult.

With their credits spanning the gamut of genres, including AIR BUD, ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, CARNIVALE, CLEOPATRA, CONSTANTINE, HILL STREET BLUES, KISS, KISS, BANG, BANG, LAND OF OZ, LETHAL WEAPON, THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, HOUSE, THE LAST BOYSCOUT, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: 2, MOBY DICK, PACIFIC HEIGHTS, PERFECT ROMANCE, RESURRECTING THE CHAMP, ROSWELL, PAINT, THE ROLE OF A LIFETIMES, THE SILVER SURFER, SOMETHING BORROWED, SPAWN, SPIDER-MAN UNLIMITED, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, STRANDED, THE SUM OF ALL FEARS, TALES FROM THE CRYPT, TIMELINE and more, those appearing in the film are Erich Anderson, Shane Black, Allison Burnett, Larry Brody, Frank Cappello, Sharon Y. Cobb, Anton Diether, Dana Fox, Anna Gilson, John Mankiewicz, Aaron Mendelsohn, Ronald D. Moore, Gary Phllips, Daniel Pyne, Deborah Serra and Robert Ward.

For screenwriters, or anybody interested in making movies, WTS provides a densily informative, fast-paced journey into the art, craft and business of writing for the screen.

Am putting the word out and hoping you'll support the movie. Our niche is relatively small, obviously, and like all indie films, warrants as much support as we can muster.

Please check out the teaser and trailer at any of the following locations: WeTheScreenwriter.com, MySpace profile (Gag!), or visit Withoutabox.

Thanks,

Don't know when DVD's going to be yet, Jason. Still dealing with broadcast issues. Hopefully, however, it'll be much sooner than later.

Then there's the whole thing about extras and stuff. Brain damage all around!

Sounds like a cool doc. You might want to post over at donedealpro.com on their forum. A few thousand screenwriters over there (over 4,000 registered users).
