"The Accidental Hitman" A Pauly The Hitman Production

Thanks man actually the sound of the briefcase was some of the only real sound I had that was used. Most of the other sounds are all foley and cranked up audio. I had to pull apart the dialog and try and fix it all in post and should have just had everyone redo the lines and add it ADR.

This was actually the first time I had to do everything myself and I almost didn't get it done. We spread ourselves so thin with everyone doing there own movies and working on 2-3 others also. I couldn't ask the guys to work there magic on mine and leave theirs high and dry so I did the best I could.

Take into acount this is my real first editing and sound job ever and I really would have loved for it to come out better, I almost didn't submit it because it wasn't really how I wanted it to come out. But all and all I appriciate the input.
Pauly
Well, good job overall. I know exactly what's it's like to end up having to do everything. It can be very difficult, so keep up the good work.

Enjoyed the film, Pauly. Add me to the "bowling ball was hilarious" group. (hitman's expressions and dead-pan dialogue - funny stuff.)

Good job!

Pauly: you rock man. Talk about an entertaining film! I among others will love to see the completed edit and hopefully our reviews will guide you in the right direction of having a nice tight cut that is as flawless as it can be.

Let's begin:

Great music: sets the tone straight off. wish you had continued it on a little further. A little shaky on the shots there, and a slightly faster edit would have been nice to really get the impact of the ... well the impact. The fast zooms are a little distracting though.

Foley is going to add so much to his movie. Love the bowling ball scene.

Oh I use one of those cases to store my lenses. I know those very well. Better those than trying to pass of a Pelican case.

Your actor rocks. Love his progression from clueless to a little jaded so quickly.

I don't get why he doesn't react more when she's injecting him or even trying to get away. Would have probably changed the tone of the film, but maybe an accident would have happened and he would have ended up killing her? I was expecting to happen and was a little disappointed that it didn't.

using a tripod instead of going handheld would have helped the look of the film even more and given us a more classical feel that the opening music set us up for.

Love the story, the concept and your lead guy. Whoever he is (wink wink) is pretty damn good.

I will have you know those cases are actually tool boxes from Lowe's. I had to return them after the shoot. But they could work for equipment storage I suppose good idea.
Pauly

Great concept! I actually laughed out loud at parts. Your lead was perfect for the roll. I wasn't a big fan of the camera work but I was definitely entertained and that's what it is all about!

Great flick! Keep 'em coming!

Thanks guys appriciate the comments and Tom was a fairly good actor if he wouldn't have pussed on me and let me spray him with blood. But other than that he did a good job.
Pauly

Brilliant little concept. Very fun. I laughed out loud several times. Major points for originality. Thanks for sharing this with us.

This had some truly great lines - "please be a cat", the bowling alley conversation... The audio was too low and in several shots the room tone would change. Beautiful lighting, especially the sunset during chainsaw accident. I enjoyed it - thanks for making this!

Hey Pauly, that's really too bad about the sound! It did distract me a bit from the film, but I've read enough of your thread to discount that. We learn from our mistakes, right? I'm just glad you decided to submit the flick!

I thought you did a great job. At first I wasn't keen on the idea of an accidental hitman, but you won me over. The casual absurdity was perfect and made the film. Tom Marshall's looks made it hit home even harder. His opening the door head shake was great (Note to tom: Tomfest is on!!). All in all I enjoyed the film. i liked the ambition and scope you went for. ESPECIALLY with diminished crew capacity. Took some guts. Guess that's why they call you Pauly the Hitman.

I love the idea of Tomfest so he would have to be in every film or at least a lookalike to play Tom Marshall, or a Tom Marshall type character...Brilliant I think we should do it. All in favor of Tomfest say I...I I I I I

Seriously thanks for the kind words as soon as I can get in there and re do the sound and finish the titles I will post it up some where for everyone to see.
Pauly

Congrats on the film Pauly. Came together well. My only issue really was the audio. You had some really great lines, shots, and performances (Tom!). I also like the reference to The Borders of Elysium...I love movie crossovers. Enjoyable and funny flick Pauly!

Did you catch the article about the gunman who killed the lady at the Gas Station it referenced analog as well. I tried to figure out a way to tie all the movies I worked on together. We had originally wanted more references in each film to point to the others but due to story changes and time constraints I got them all in except Barn Dance which I have re done the newspaper to include, but couldn't get it in the edit before upload. Thanks for the great comments on the films much appreciated.

Hey Pauly, sorry it took me so long to comment on Hitman.

Man, this was a blast. Tom was perfect and made me laugh out loud a few times. Like others have said, some of the lines were classic. I loved the calls from his mom and the suitcases piling up. ha ha

I'm not going to get into production value since it's been covered already. Nothing bothered me to a point were I was taken out of the film.

I thought your drugged sequence was really creative. Cool effects.

Overall, really entertaining and a good break from the intensity of most of the films. Congrats on even getting this done with your limited resources. I'm looking forward to your next film. Cheers!

I liked the rhythm of this one. A little timing blip on the CU of the foot hitting the brake and the screech of tires.

Tom was great. His WTF in the bowling alley was well deliverd and priceless. Kudos throughout on the performance.

Gotta love the ladies as well. No wall flowers here! Both did ther respective roles well - maybe too well. Where does one meet a chick with a good right hook, or a chainsaw-wielding Olive Oil. In need new hang outs.

Sound was a little rough in spots. Had to really crane my neck to hear the hit woman's dialogue.

Missed the timing on the head hitting the phone. Next time have Tom really slam his head for a more realistic effect.

Enjoyed the film. Maybe now with the fest behind us you can take a few unfrenzied days to clean it up and take it to the nines.

Carrying on the tradition from Timefest, the AIM sessions have returned, a live stream of whatever may come out of our heads as we watch your films. Here are Ben Sliker and Brad Mates thoughts on "The Accidental Hitman."

spesliker (10:05:11 PM): accidental hitman?
TheBrad84 (10:05:33 PM): sure
spesliker (10:05:37 PM): rdy?
TheBrad84 (10:05:40 PM): yes
spesliker (10:05:41 PM): 3
spesliker (10:05:42 PM): 2
spesliker (10:05:43 PM): 1
spesliker (10:05:45 PM): go
TheBrad84 (10:05:59 PM): im gonna assume this film is autobiagraphical as pauly the hitman made it
spesliker (10:06:06 PM): STOCK MOTION TITLE! I KNOW YOUR TRICKS PAULY...
TheBrad84 (10:06:20 PM): sound is rough-sauce
spesliker (10:06:25 PM): fact.
TheBrad84 (10:06:30 PM): OMG
TheBrad84 (10:06:31 PM): MY EARS
spesliker (10:06:33 PM): ROFL
TheBrad84 (10:06:39 PM): just as i was turning it up
spesliker (10:06:48 PM): man, he's a raiders fan
spesliker (10:06:57 PM): i can see why he's drinking ...
TheBrad84 (10:07:06 PM): im suprised he hasnt killed himself already.
TheBrad84 (10:07:41 PM): right ... cause the mafia just hands out money
spesliker (10:07:46 PM): you ever seen $100,000 dolars before?
TheBrad84 (10:07:52 PM): So that's the deal. I give you $100,000 - you sign over the deed to your gym. End-o-story.
spesliker (10:08:22 PM): it was a bold choice not to ADR the BOWLING ALLEY SCENE
spesliker (10:08:56 PM): INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER
spesliker (10:09:03 PM): THEY HAVE LAWS ON THIS
TheBrad84 (10:09:10 PM): yeah he would be in jail after the first one
TheBrad84 (10:09:22 PM): i was driving and i wasnt looking and i hit someone....THATS A CRIME
TheBrad84 (10:09:56 PM): the mafia has hits on a lot of people...
spesliker (10:10:11 PM): seemingly normal people too
spesliker (10:10:26 PM): PA-KOW!
spesliker (10:10:40 PM): what was that?
spesliker (10:10:43 PM): i can't hear you
TheBrad84 (10:10:49 PM): she looks like she's saying something interesting....
spesliker (10:10:51 PM): you punched me in the eardrum ...
spesliker (10:11:12 PM): WOW THATS A LOUD NEEDLE
spesliker (10:11:44 PM): I CANT CONTROL THE VOLUME OF MY SOUND EFFECTS
spesliker (10:12:27 PM): oh lord.
TheBrad84 (10:13:31 PM): i liked the idea...it was very funny. but it was just so unbelievable. there are laws against what he was doing. plus why would the mafia just pay people who kill people they want killed. if they hired him after the first kill it would make sense. but they dont.
spesliker (10:13:54 PM): so it doesn't
spesliker (10:14:25 PM): i'm reading the rest of the articles in the "newspaper"
spesliker (10:14:31 PM): much funnier
spesliker (10:15:06 PM): final thoughts?
TheBrad84 (10:16:06 PM): well i think we said enough aobut the story. the biggest thing is the sound. it ruined a perfectly fine film. i dont even know why you would submit this with the sound as it was
TheBrad84 (10:16:16 PM): FIX IT
spesliker (10:16:33 PM): IT'S BROKE
spesliker (10:16:35 PM): FIX IT
TheBrad84 (10:16:51 PM): three steps. FIX. IT. FIX IT.

Pauly, I think Brad summed it up nicely, there were a few things that prevented us from really enjoying this film. One was the sound effects, and the other was the "accidents". I think if there was a little more thought into the plot and have real accidents instead of stuff you would obviously go to jail for, it would have been much funnier. Plus, the mafia isn't exactly a charitable organization, why even pay him at all? Why not just kick back and watch, save the cash for a nice golden hot tub or a small bag of plutonium? Tom's performance was solid throughout. That being said, I can't imagine working on 4 different films for the same fest. Congrats for getting them all in.
