Calls From The Führerbunker

So what did you finally decide to do with the subtitles?
Haven't.

Still playing with them. Tried red but that didn't work all that great for dark scenes. I had an idea though. Since the movie is in black and white I may go back and forth between black subtitles and white subtitles. Depending on the background of course. White subtitles on dark footage and vice versa.

Of course, this may be distracting to the viewer. I've yet to try it though.

I saw the kind of yellow subtitles, and that looks like it would work. I'll have to look at the pic again and see if any ideas come to mind.

I did a documentary where I used white subtitles to introduce people, but in one scene there was too much white in the background, so I had to use black. It seemed to work fine.

You could try a black font with a white stroke outline.... that way you would have a standard that would work for either black background or white blackgrounds.

Hmmmm..... that sounds like a good idea.

Who would have thought the subtitles would be giving me so much grief!

Glad I could help. I think the most interesting part about this particular board is that you get to see the unique issues that each production deals with along the way. Yours being primarily subtitles and mine being the 2 minutes I need to cut! Oi vey! Good luck! This is probably my #1 must-see film for this fest, I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks, man. I appreciate that.

Show your movie to someone who has nothing vested in it and they will tell you what can be cut out. That usually works. It's hard when you are so close to the project.

It can be done!

Good luck.

Mike

Yellow worked for me. It didn't feel intrusive at all.

Now that you have all this sweat-equity into mastering the subtitle, how long before you ever use it again?!

.
Ummm..... never?
Just kidding. It's not all that difficult, I just thought it would be extremely easy. My mistake.

UPDATE
I just received the revamped score from Herman and he absolutely nailed it!
I requested a few minor changes and he not only adjusted things accordingly, but exceeded my expectations fully!
The man is amazing to work with. The movie has just improved considerably due to his amazing score!

:dankk2:

That's great, Mike. Can't wait to see it. Maybe I'll get mine finished early enough next time to have somebody else score mine, cz that's alot of work.
