HVX/M2 Demo Reel of Past Three Projects as DP

Looks great man, some goregeous images for sure.

although the explosion i yet to be completed, the insinuation of blast (the flying soldiers) is great something.

well done.

Thank you.

This inspired me, it really has. Your footage is probably some of the best I've seen on this website so far... so keep the good work coming!

Lastly... for selfish reasons... that was Radiohead for the music track, correct? If so, what song?

i totally agree. fantastic!
music track is Muse.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! Great skin-tones, real cinematic lighting, really great camera operating. That's the first thing I've seen that shows me what the HXV can do in the right hands. I SO needed to see that.

Diputsboy - Obviously, you're experienced. So here's my VERY important question: If you had shot that on the DVX100b, would it have NOT looked as good? (Keeping in mind that you'd still be using the M2, of course.)

Would really love to hear anything and everything you have to say on the subject....pleeeeease! Thanks so much.

Barely relevant, but your soldiers' uniforms looked really crisp. You'd think those patches would pick up the dust and dirt and lose some of their color....awesome photography though.

karmafilm-
i'd say that using the dvx100b would produce comparable results. They both use 1/3" chips, which is where the real "resolution" is at. The SDX900 is a 2/3" chip camera and quite honestly, it looks better than the HVX when viewed in optimal format.
the dvx100b is a great camera- especially the andromeda version. however, when it comes down to it all this HD stuff won't even beat S16mm with an HD transfer.

thank you for the compliments... they mean alot to me.

What a CLEAN/COOL ass reel!!!
Could you explain how you accomplished the soldiers flying back from the explosion? That's awesome.

Great Shots! The lighting was amazing, along with the camera movements and composition. My favorite shots were the shot of the train tracks with the guy walking and the tracking shot of the couple with the rack focus that transitions into the guy in the car with it raining, absolutely stunning. But then I don't think i could pick out a weak shot in the whole thing. Keep up the good work.

Lighting aside, i think the thing that stood out the most is the blocking and composition of the shots. Really really professional and sharp looking reel you have here! The only criticism i can draw is most likely a nitpick, and probably entirely personal, but i didnt quite like the lens flare in the last shot. Other than that its really a great reel you have there. Thanks for sharing!

from a technical standpoint it was good, lighting, framing, etc

my gut told me it was a tad over-dramatic and gawdy..... but hey, thats what sells sickets and buys dreams right?

good work bro

Gorgeous stuff. I'm thinking about going the Andromeda route, do you have any feedback on that?

Yup, i thought it lookd gorgeous but I got a little impatient, fast forwarded near the end, perhaps its a little too drawn out, melodramatic, and lacked a little variety in the kind of visual representation you chose to show, as it seemed compose of what felt like moody c/u's etc.

lol also id be quite impressed by the humble dvx if it did manage to create results as good as this footage (which is quite obviously HD anyway)

:)

Hi.

Great reel/footage, very nice framings and composition. Was this shot with the M2 + the HVX or the 900? What about lenses and settings etc..?

Thanks for posting.

youre right about the s16 transfer. i just did my first HD s16 transfer and it blow me away.

your demo reel was awesome. def some of the better stuff on here. depending upon who you are showing it too, i might suggest cutting it down a bit, it seemd a little long towards the end.

Wow wa weee wa. That's some great looking demo footage for sure. Sure it's a bit dramatic.. but that's great for a demo reel and everything looked really stunning. The one shot with the chick and the guy on the park bench was stunning. Great stuff. Funny though how everyone has a different eye/taste/objective... and to me... the HVX delievers pretty much similar and comperable results to the super 16 that I shot. Enough so, to not have to pay the expense unless someone else is paying for it. Kind of a 16mm killer in my eyes... but ultimatley in an "un-trained" audience view, I don't think that an audience could/would or even cares about the difference between the two. They both look good.. .and for me I'm able to shoot something now that gets "WOWs" like my film shoots have in the past.. That's a liberating experience for sure!

Enough of that. Stunning stuff! Thanks for showing... Congrats!
