Other than filmmaking - what are your interests?

Just curious to hear what people are into other than filmmaking, and how that might play into the projects they're interested in doing.

For example - I've always really enjoyed cooking, and considered myself somewhat of a 'foodie.' Not that I'm any good at cooking mind you, but I've always thought it would be fun and interesting to do a film based around chef's or food in some way.

Anyone else have some interests or hobbies that might cross over into their filmmaking subject matter?

Yes. Eating what you cook. That's a cross over (isn't it?) Spare filmmaking as desert.

I have many interests... photography is one, though that is kind of in the film world, I like to separate them. I enjoy sports, all kinds, basketball, tennis, volleyball, etc.

I also enjoy video games (surprise)... and nature... I enjoy nature, though I like modern conveniences....

Well, funny, these are distinct, yet in some remote way ultimately connected to filmmaking. Music - mostly listening, collecting, and a little bit of composing, great way to find music for film. Travel - love to explore new countries - and a great way to find locations for filming. Camping + backpacking - every year I try to squeeze in 3 weeks of camping at some national park - well, just so inspiring, I get many film ideas while hiking and backpacking.

I love Music. If I had any musical talent, I might have become a musician, rather than a filmmaker. IN fact, when I was 11 I tried to take up the guitar. I gave up, made my first movie, and never really looked back. Although I used to be in an avant garde noise band. But that's not what most people call music, and I still can't play any instruments. I'm also very passionate about still photography. It was a hobby once, but I've gotten very serious about it in the past year or two. I'm also a hopeless romantic. Literature is also a passion, though I've slowed down on my book-reading as of late. I love Kurt Vonnegut, Albert Camus, and William Faulkner, and I'm getting into Charles Bukowski, currently. I write poetry occasionally, and I've been slowly pecking away at a novel. I've also really gotten into theatre this year--both working on plays and watching them. I want to write and direct a play by next year.
