Smuggler's Ransom- OFFICIAL THREAD

Damn, I was hoping to get some stocking stuffers for christmas.
:)

Congrats again Brandon.
That's fantastic news.

Thanks to all for the congrats...

and sorry Luis, we were all hoping this year, but the distributor is prepping our marketing campaign and a possible church-wide release across the country, and those things take a lot of time.

What does "church-wide" release mean? Denomination-specific? I mean, it doesn't include f.ex. Catholic or Mormon churches... or does it?

I won't be handling all that, but obviously if there are places that carry pre-orders I'll pass it along! I'm really eekin' to give out more details on things, but as of now, I've been asked to keep most everything confidential.

The page “Smuggler's Ransom Trailer” attempted to load an Internet plug-in named “Veoh Web Kit Plug-In”, but the plug-in failed to load successfully.

Official Release Information!

Smuggler's Ransom was a project that was conceived in the Spring of 2005. Daniel Noa brought me the concept of adapting a short stage-play into a short film, which would later expand into a long short/featurette. I loved the story, and thought it could be very well told in a film medium. We acquired the rights from the author Steve Losee and scriptwriting began. I wrote the first draft off of the original stage-play and a short novella Steve had also written.

By the end of 2005 we had a pretty polished script. In the meantime, Daniel & I produced the short film, A Price Too High, which also competed in the 2006 DVXuser Sci-Fest. The film was also seen by an acquaintance of Daniel, and he had an interest in investing in our next film. We were excited because we knew we needed some money to make Smuggler's. The budget for the film was finally secured in May of 2006.

We scrambled into pre-production with a July shoot day in sight. We were extremely blessed to get Anthony Tyler Quinn on board, most well known for his role as Mr. Turner in the show Boy Meets World. We shot the film in an extremely fast four days, with one small pick-up day. The post process took some time as our original composer dropped out, and we called on the services of the extremely talented Justin Durban, who was there for us in the crunch.

Finally in February of 2007 the film was done. We burned screener copies and began sending them to various studios and distribution companies. We also began sending the film to festivals and had several screenings over the summer. Finally in November a deal was reached with Cloud Ten Pictures, who produced the extremely successful Left Behind films, for the international and domestic distribution rights to the film. In February of 2008 an official release date was finally set, June 10, which is nearly two years since production of the film. It has been a long road, but it has all been worth it! Please stay tuned for even more information regarding the upcoming release! Thank you all for your support!

From the desk of André van Heerden
CEO – Cloud Ten Pictures

Cloud Ten Pictures' mandate is quite simple and direct: find and produce quality, entertaining films that have strong Christian themes and distribute them to share the Gospel message.

What is simple to write is not as simple to accomplish. Over the past dozen years we have in fact only found two other independent films that met these goals. Many others were entertaining but lacked a Christian theme. Others had Christian messages but simply weren't entertaining.

I'm thrilled to announce that we've finally found another film to distribute! SMUGGLER'S RANSOM will be the first NEW RELEASE for the ground-breaking CLOUD TEN CHURCH CINEMAS.

On October 21, 2005 Cloud Ten Pictures released LEFT BEHIND: WORLD AT WAR into over 3200 individual churches for an opening weekend. On that same weekend Universal's DOOM, opened on 3044 screens. It brought in $15 million dollars at the box office. While we never tried for the dollar box office of DOOM, we did accomplish something far greater. There were over 2000 accounts of people stepping forward and accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior in altar calls following the film. Cloud Ten is looking to increase that box office of saved souls.

SMUGGLER'S RANSOM is a great find. While made on what I like to call a “faith and prayer” budget, it has a powerful story of redemption told against the backdrop of a spy-thriller. It reminds me of the first features Cloud Ten produced and I know the filmmakers, Brandon Rice and Daniel Noa have a great future ahead of them. In fact we're already talking to Brandon about another picture: “No Greater Love”!

So make sure to tell others about SMUGGLER'S RANSOM's up-coming national release in CLOUD TEN CHURCH CINEMAS. And get other Churches to join too! Opening weekend is June 6th! There's no easier way to spread the Word than by inviting someone to watch an entertaining film.

Sincerely in Christ,

André van Heerden – CEO, Cloud Ten Pictures
