Cinemek G35 is back???

I haven´t tried the latest G35 yet.
I prefer to loose 1.5stops and have a nice 35mm film dof than an adapter than only looses .5 stops and makes a gaussian bokeh effect.

Does the G35 produce an upside down image? If so, does the right side up of the LE and less light loss outweigh the streamlined non moving G35?

Just based on the picture on their site, the G35 will not be able to flip the image. A flip module would cause the adapter to be offset instead of a straight tube like the picture.

Cinemek says there is a light loss of 1.4 stop. Is this a huge difference, in practical use, from the half stop that the Letus Extreme?

The difference of a stop of light loss means that assuming everything else is the same, the G35 will need twice as much light as the EX for the same picture brightness.

It's interesting that the G35 is finally coming out at this time. I would be interested in seeing what features it brings to the table. It's gonna have to be good to compete with all the big boys.

what will be the f/stop limit ,before seeing the grain of the GG?
5.6??
macgregor what was the limit in the first prototype??
movietube golden rule to not see the grain of the GG are:
1.the film lens shouldn't be closed down more then T 3.0
2.up T 3.0 ,AVOID BRIGHT BACKGROUND and restrict the camera movement.
what will be the limit with this new static adapter??

I'm willing to bet with a static GG you get to 4.0 and see it, although I have never used an adapter with a static GG. I know that the Letus on brand new batteries can barely get 5.6 in broad daylight before you see the GG.

And 5.6 is a pretty nice place to be on SLR lenses.

Guess that's why the pro glass is where you want to be (Lomo, Zeiss, Cooke).

I have been hoping and hoping the G35 would come out as a static design. and I would imagine that they would not be releasing it if they didn't have the grain of the gg next to nothing. Especially on the HVX. Since the HD and HDV cams were the reason the G35 didn't ship originally.

The biggest benefit with the static design, and someone please jump in I'm wrong, is vibrating or spin your "film plane" has got to be softening the image to some degree. So the Cinemek should give a sharper image. And if they have the nicest, most film like bokeh overall, they win. IMHO.

No Flip, but for some people that's not a problem. You might be right about the plane being next to nothing. More speculation to come.

Looking forward to seeing what this adapter does, definitely. The Letus flip could probably work with this, as well.

Late to the party, but another adaptor in the mix couldn't hurt. Then again I'll believe it when i see people actually shooting with it.

Hey all...

Hey all...

Hello again everyone. I think you all would like to hear from me personally, so here you go.
We have obviously been working on this product for some time now and are finally at a point where we feel it is ready in HD. I am fully aware of other products which have come to market during our development. With that in mind I am a believer that there is not one tool which will serve all purposes for everyone. yes, I am a fan of Mr. Jannard's work and I know he would agree. As with anything there should be options. I am very impressed with Dennis, Wayne, Quien, and James work in their products. Anyone who knows how difficult working on something without reward is can attest. With any product there are choices which need to be made in order to make a find the sweet spot if you will. Our first choice was a static unit. Building a static which renders and acceptable image in HD is not easy :) Its very expensive and takes a lot of time especially if you are not a big company. However, I did not want to do anything if it was not static. I won't get into the + and - of the G35 vs other products but what I will say is that I don't spend time doing things that are not worth it. I honestly believe a Brevis or Letus or M2 owner will benefit from a G35 as well.

We chose to develop a technology which is very very difficult to perfect, is expensive to produce and loses slightly more light in order to achieve a true 35mm DoF look. Bokeh, blur circle, circle of confusion, whatever name you assign it, is VERY important to us. The G35 achieves it. Besides, isn't the point to make your product look like 35mm? Compare demos and ask questions.

I am confident that the flexibility & durability of our static screen combined with the sharp image and true 35mm bokeh will make the G35 another great tool for your toolbox. I've dusted of my login and password the the DVXuser.com forums so you will see me on here more and more to answer questions. Please feel free to email me at jon (@) cinemek.com I will try to answer questions in a timely fashion.

Thanks!

Thanks for postin, John.

Questions from me would be: how far can you stop down before seeing the GG on the 35 and how soon can we expect to see test footages from the newest unit? ?Thanks!

glad to see it's definitely not vaporware. The cinemek looks like an amazing product and if it does everything Jonathan says, I for one can't wait to get my grubby little hands on it. Just wondering how long before it gets to market and before we can see the price point....

"grain" or visible image structure starts to become slightly visible around 4.0 in the worst case situations ie lowcontrast light colors in 1080p. And does not worsen as you stop down. To be honest the structure is soo small that it is hard to see at all because your monitor or projection screen has more grain than your image. no client, audience member, or viewer will notice. If so you need a more compelling story. :)

We will be shipping out pre order units feb 1 and shipping full time in march.

Msrp is $999 for the unit and ~$175 for mounts. Prices will vary for pl and speciaty mounts

Whew! Haven't posted here in a while, glad I didn't use a non-standard password.

My questions are still:

Do you have HD examples?
Will you be releasing a Canon FD adapter?
Will you be releasing an HV20 adapter?

If yes. I follow up on my reservation and grab one (and stop by costco to pick up an HV20.) If not I'll just put all my money into RED rentals.

*Reservation #30 and the "Reduser" quoted earlier. ;)

Currently the camera mounts available are for the Panasonic HVX, DVX and Canon A1, with the initial lens mount offered being the Nikon F mount. In the upcoming months these will be followed by the Sony Z1 and V1 along with a universal 68mm version. They will also be offering a Canon EF mount.

Welcome back old friend. Yes, I know it first hand and I can attest it.
It is so unrewarding that although I was the first to lead this path (for those oldtimers here, at dvinfo and elsewhere) I am not even mentioned at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth-of-field_adapter like I did nothing at all. Like I wasn't even there.....
So... I gather the MPIC you saw first hand did not impress you... You must have something better in your sleeves then... Let's see it.

There's nothing on the website that says it does but I'm thinking you may be able to use the single flip units from cinevate and sgpro...hopefully. I don't know how would that affect the image quality optically though.
