AFTER CLASS - snodart & Tim Young

am I singing or is this some strange mime act?
Singing mime.

Thanks Evan and the Tuttle bro's!

Now we wait for the download links...........

Can't wait to check all of these out! I think Tim is going to rig my laptop to his projector so we can watch them on the "big screen" (I guess they will only take up about half of the screen, but should be fun all the same).

EDIT: By the way, I like the rotating banner RebeccaD (Dave, you need to get you one of those). Looking forward to seeing both of your flicks.

Aww Great work man. So pretty. one simplescene. Good dialogue. But he repeats himself, with the line about never missing church. it just stands out.

The musical choice of almost, gospel, but with a fiddle was appropriate but predictabel. almost like, thats "religous" music. Minor dings.

Overall very nice.

Holy cow, you have a deep understanding of the subtleties of cinematography. Thanks for not overdoing everything. Just great.

This was a fabulous piece of work. Those scenes are so well framed, edited and shot. That kid is going to kick ass in this town. What a great job he did. David, I marvel at your talents and the way you can inhabit completely different characters.

I have only had a bit of time to watch today and this was one that I really wanted to see so I put it near the top of my list. I like a lot of what is going on in this short, it has a nice pace and looks good.

The only small issues that I have with it are likely related to the location used, specifically, there was a lot of glass in the frame (things like the door, pictures on the walls, etc) and I noticed a number of times where the lighting instruments were revealed (even the reflection off of Dave's watch revealed the sources a few times).

Glass is the bane of cinematography and with a lot of it, there isn't much you can do. Given more time (and likely budget) you could use dulling spray on some of the surfaces or could have removed the glass from the pictures on the wall (assuming that you had permission to do so). These would have helped, but this is likely something that not everyone will notice.

The other small issue was the scope felt a bit small, I think it would have been better if you had a number of extras at the beginning (perhaps even something as simple as other students getting up from their desks and leaving the class room ) to help sell that this was an active school setting.

On the plus side, the performances were very solid and the camera handling was well suited to the story. This project shows a solid team with a clear vision of the finished film.

In summary, well executed and a really nice little film across the board.

I second the comments so far... This was excellent. Very simple story. Told well in 3 minutes.

The dialogue did stand out and was fabulous. The Kid is a natural. The teacher did his part, but almost seemed to "overdue it" with some of his lines. Don't know if that was intentional or not?

The shots and framing were great and helped tremendously with the story.

Loved the music.

This is one of my favorites so far. It made me feel some real emotion. What a drama should do.

Bravo, Snodart and Tim!

Nice entry, Justin and Tim. I like you choice of color and the acting was top notch. It's amazingly hard to work with children but it looks like you've found the secret. The pacing in this seem much like the pacing in your last entry, Cache. I loved the visuals in this but found the story to be the weakest part as it seemed to be vignette from a larger story. I did enjoy the dialogue, though. I think the choice of Amazing Grace for the end was inspired. Especially that haunting violin. Good job...

Hey guys,
Congratulations on an awesome film, beautiful love the colors. One geek question how did the film hold up at 720p was the grain of the adapter noticeable, I know Macgregor has had problems with it before. I am trying to decide between the go35 and the sgpro for use with an HVX. Anyway loved the sound, colors, framing, performances which were quite edgy in parts. Beautiful all round hats off to Jack for stepping in front of the cam.

Well done film. I was especially impressed with the boy. He is very gifted already! I loved the lighting and the overall look of the set as well. One critique would be that David's lines sounded a bit redundant after awhile, but his portrayal was good for that role. Good job on your entry, it's one of my top so far.

Guys. I just wanted to say first and foremost, that I thought the kid in this flick was great. He was great. Natural. I really loved his performance. Who was he?

I thought the film was very well executed. Good sound. Good framing, etc., etc. I think the score in this one matched the film, and really helped to move it forward. Really nice score.

My main, and really only issue with the flick was the story. It was over just when I was ready for the rest of the story. I didn't get it entirely. I thought it was very, very well executed. The timing and everything was nice. And I knew when it was over. It wasn't rushed at all. I just wanted the rest of the story. Maybe it's just me not seeing it though.

Good work. Really.

Jason

i agree with the above posts in that the boy was great. the little girl was great too. the color and the music were perfect for the story as well. the classroom was really neatly displayed. the teacher did seem to say the same thing a few times but i didnt get him as over the top, in fact i think he needed some sweat to show, that would've really sold him as a totally frustrated man.

for me the story was a way to show how incredibly obtuse and dangerous a belief can be if it is blind. however i really did wish for this to be only the beginning or middle of a much larger story/movie. i got the feeling i was in for a to kill a mockingbird type of movie. i would've loved to see more from the boy and girl and to see them interact with each other. maybe you have this in the works? maybe you should! i feel as if this short only touched on the tip of a potentially great story.
i suppose it is much better to want more than to be tired and wish for less.

i liked it.

I'm gonna have to agree with some of the above comments. The acting was very good. This was Conconnons best in my opinion. The kids were great especially the boy. The framing for the most part was great but (and this is being nic-picky) the one when the teacher enters the kid's head seemed alittle cut off. Your images looked great, your a Snod35 gave some very clean images, I'm very impressed.

Anyway, I also agree that I felt like we were watching the beginning to a great movie but then it just kinda ended and I wanted more, i guess in a way that is a complement. I like (and maybe this was the point of the whole thing) that the boy was far more "moral" and "worthy" then the supposed man of god. Good job though over all. I enjoy our guys' movies and can't wait for another... I hope we could even work together on one.
