Best Compression for 50min DVD

I'm having the same problems as you SurJones, with the interlacing line problem, but when I looked at your screen grab I saw a window that I've never really payed attention to (the last inspector window on the right). So I did a little messing around with it. I've found that if you put the output field to "same as source" or "progressive" that it completely takes away all the Interlacing lines. I'm very happy about this find because this problem has been annoying me for a very long time. I hope this helps you as well. Now I need to learn what the other controls do in that window and if they're worth the added compression time.

So does everything in all my windows look good besides changing the output field. I want to make sure, so I dont waste another 10-12 hours of compressing time :) GREAT FIND by the way.

It looks good to me. Man, this find just made my day. I film shows a lot with the HVX and I've never been happy with the compression . . . that is until now, :). Now we just need Blue-Ray to become standard in the marketplace so we won't have to do any compression.

OH I FORGOT ONE MAJOR ISSUE... AUDIO... When I EXPORTED I DID NOT GET ANY AUDIO WHEN I IMPORTED INTO DVDSP. WHEN I OPENED THE CLIP UP, THERE WAS NO AUDIO EITHER.

2 ways you can go about the audio in your situation.
1) In FCP export the audio file only as an AIFF than import it to DVDSP.
2) import your video clip In compressor use the aiff or the dolby encoder that was in the
setting folder you used for encoding the video.

When you encode for a dvd with compressor you have to specify what kind of encoding youwant for the audio. 2 choices are given
a compressed one: the dolby supporting multichannel arrangement (ideal if you have more than 2 channels )
and an uncompressed version that supports your standard stereo channels.

I hope this helps.

I always use the audio preset of Dolby2, which can be added to the queue.

I change it to -31 normalization, however and save that as a custom audio preset.

Based on the pics of my compressors settings on the previous page, What am I doing wrong, to not get audio it is done compressing?

You haven't added an audio preset to your encode.

I don't see any there.

drop your video file into Compressor.

On the settings drop down menu, choose:

Audio formats/dolby 2.

That's it.

submit

Maybe I am confusing you. I find it extremely odd that Exporting for DVD Mpeg 2 doesnt have any audio and I have to do a separate export.

If you do not include an audio preset encode election, it doesn't include it. It's that simple.

For example, when you choose the 16:9 90 minute fast encode preset set there are three choice:

DVD Fast Encode 90 Minutes - 16:9
__________________________________

All
AIFF 48/16
Dolby2
Mpeg-2 6.2Mbps 1-pass 16:9

You wouldn't choose all because you don't want aiff AND Dolby2 audio.

You want either aiff audio or Dolby 2 audio

So you go back and select the video encode and setting and then again select the Dolby2 audio setting.

I've been doing this four five years.

The video and audio have to be separate streams for DVD SP.

Yes, you don't have to do two exports IF YOU INCLUDE AUDIO AND VIDEO AS PART OF THE BATCH YOU ARE SENDING.

BTW, can I have a name other than your screen name?

David,
Thanks so much. Just weird that you have to do seperate. BUT it is what it is. Thanks again so much.

I dont feel conformable giving my name out. You know with all the internet fraud going on. thanks

I do have a MAJOR issue. The DVD looks great and very detailed on my G5/Cinema Display, and dencet on 46" LCD HDTV, but on regular TV and a PC laptop, the quality is then EXTREMELY SOFT, or blurry as my client said.

I even saw it, I was horrified.

Did not see it on the laptop, but the others. I have seen another DVD on there, and it was sharp, but my image was brighter. Mine is just as mentioned above.
