Can I shoot my movie iin 60i on my DVX100A and qualify for the contest? Just asking before I get started.

Yes. There's no requirement for 24p, although I'm not sure why you'd shoot in 60i.

I am so new at owning the camera that I am just not comfortable with 24P yet. I do plan on having some 24P shots but, it is my understanding, if I am planning on dong some fast pans that 24p is not my best choice. If I am wrong, please let me know.

Personally, I shoot 24p for everything. A fast pan will look the same on film as in 24p. I like the way film renders motion and the DVX100 set on 24p produces the same effect. However, everyone has their personal tastes and some prefer the look of 60i. Mixing 24p and 60i shots in a dramatic film will look strange unless the different looks are "motivated"--ie, you're trying to simulate footage from a small video camera. Grasshopper, I advise you to shoot 24p and not look back.
 
like the movie SIGNS, where they show the clip on tv with the kids birthday party, and they capture the footage of the alien walking across the screen. That was very home movie-like and was probably shot in 60i. it's a good effect if you can pull it off.
 
Thank you for the encouragement. Since I don't expect to win, I'll give shooting in 24p a try. At least I can get a t-shirt. I wish I could get two because I have a co-producer who is just as involved in producing this short as I am.

Wow, those prizes are amazing! I've been locked away at work for the last couple of weeks and finally got to start thinking about ZombieFest again. Built my homemade dolly yesterday! My movie is definitely a little on the different side (for a Zombie film that is). Don't expect to see grey faces or stumbling monsters.

I like it already. :thumbsup: We're going to have plenty of films that are of the traditional Zombie attack/run/hide variety--and that's cool, but I think everyone will appreciate some different creative approaches.

I can't pretend that it's too much out of creativity. I had never seen a zombie movie in my life until last night. Oddly enough, a friend of mine just asked me to work with him on an idea he had for a zombie short that we are going to shoot in September. As a prerequisite, he gave me Dawn of the Dead.

Yes, but there's no extra points for turning in your film early. I hope everyone will take advantage of the extra time to work on postproduction. Not that I even have to mention this as most films usually get submitted at the last possible second. :)

Cool, I'm going to shoot it this weekend, so I'll probably will be one of the "last minute" guys... :)
 
I'm going to be as last minute as you taubkin... don't feel bad... I can't even start shooting until next week some time.

Seriously, beats the hell out of doing corporate stuff or working as a well trained money in the big productions...

I'm shooting August 13th, which is the absolute latest date I could shoot and still expect to edit a decent cut by the deadline.

Of course, this is a zombie flick, so evaluations of 'decent' are relative...
