C100: Z-Finder Pro for C100

the viewfinder of the C100 is useless. It is way too small to be comfortable with focusing, color are horrible... Too bad.

For the longest time I heard how "awful" the c100's VF was and it wasn't untilI actually got my hands on one that I realized how inaccurate those opinions were. With a simple eyecup upgrade it becomes completely useable. I guess it has a lot to do with the type of stuff you shoot but if you have ever worked with an extern EVF you would know how much of a pain and expense they can be(both on your wallet and the ergonomics of a camera).

I suppose it has a little to do with having a background in photography, but I have never trusted things like color and exposure to what I see on a monitor or evf. The eye can easily be fooled but tools such as zebras, white balance, light meters and waveforms cannot :)

I agree with you Leo. Zebra and waveform is the way to go.

But when it comes to the viewfinder of the C100 (which is the best camera I owned so far, I love it), it is way too small (at least for me) to be comfortable and judge focus. The first time I put my eye in there, I really thought it was a joke. I owned both the zacuto EVF and DP4, and I agree with you regarding ergonomics, then you need to rig the camera... But at least you are able to keep your focus and enjoy your picture.

So far the Z-finder has been the way to go for me to keep it light.

Have you tried using the internal vf of the c100 with an aftermarket eyecup? I picked up a 14.00 zacuto eyecup from bandh and it has performed marvelous. Puts the camera right in the comfort zone in terms of hand holding and does a great job at blocking out light

I backed the Kickstarter for the C-cup and have it, but almost never use it. The internal VF isn't great. The EVF of the Sony NEX cameras are worlds better. The VF of the C100 is too small to be of good use for me.

As someone who was used to the HVX's LCD for focusing before, I find the C100evf manageable.
It´s totally a deliberate crippling of the cam by Canon, as stated often enough, but still: Manageable.
