From Canonrumors.com:
Canon's 8K camera is identical to C300II but it records externally using an intermediate module then to four Odyssey 7Q+ 4K recorders (Four 4096×2016 signals making up DCI 8K) up to 60p.

Guys, please understand that this is a prototype "proof of concept" camera setup, not something that anyone is ever expecting anybody to shoot with. Canon built this all especially for their technology expo, and if you can get past the rig then you can appreciate the incredible technical feat they pulled off. It's an 8K60p Super-35 (APS-C) sensor! I'm amazed the thing doesn't melt. 13 stops of DR with great color fidelity and low noise? With that incredible pixel density running at that constant frame rate? For those that can appreciate it, this is a huge feat. Convergent Design is proud to work with Canon on a system as impressive as this. They did all the heavy lifting, even building that cool rig for the four Odysseys. We just think it's seriously impressive.

Impressive? yes, but why do I feel like I'm looking at a motorcycle with a Chevy V8 in it? (or one of those puller trucks that has 4 blown big blocks?)

Because it's a TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATOR, not a real product! Some of the technology needed to shrink this is available now, but it doesn't make sense for either Canon or CD to implement that for a one-off showcase. (And btw, IMHO it doesn't make sense to implement that technology in a real product yet either, as it hasn't hit price/performance sweet spot yet. But soon, I think...)
