AC90: Yikes!

I thought the camera was locked onto the tripod, but it wasn't - and it tumbled face first to the floor from 5 feet up.

Here's the thing - beyond a minor scratch in the lens hood, everything seems fully functional - zoom, focus and iris all seem to be working fine both manually and on auto; no scratches on the lens itself.

Is there anything I should look out for, or did I dodge a major bullet?

You probably are fine. Panasonic pro products are tough. We had a guy here who posted about his HMC150 (or was it a DVX100?) that fell off the back of a motorcycle as he was barreling down the road. He fired it up, and it worked fine.

If you're not seeing anything obviously wrong, I'd say it's probably likely that it's okay.

The only thing I can add is to check the image stabilization (possibly the most delicate moving part in the camera) and check for focus accuracy, with AF and manual. The only serious problems I've had with repairs in the last few years were DSLRs taking a bump and losing focus via the mirror. Of course a DSLR has a pretty delicate mechanical system where the position of the mirror has a big effect on focus, and with a mirror knocked out of alignment, you can still focus with live view. But I'd check it out with a big monitor or TV, it is another moving-part system.

Thanks Barry & Michael.

The OIS seems to check out (admittedly I have only checked on the LCD). I have to admit that I am very impressed at this camera's ability to take a hit. I figured it was game over - which would have been a serious drag considering I am just starting out with it.

That's one mistake I'll not make again (though I'm sure I'll make many others).
