XLR + internal?

is it possible to use 1 xlr input on one channel, and record the internal mic on the other channel? this would be sooo handy, just as 'backup' track or some 'room'.
i know the panasonic hvx can do this.

it looks though that you can only rec 1 xlr on two channels which is not really useful.. maybe firmware update, (ever?)

?

My only true gripe with the A1 is that you cannot split audio levels across the channels, at least not via Ch. 1 and Ch. 2. My thinking is that you can't do so with either channel and the onboard mic either.

enabling XLR is through the menu so it's maybe a software-thingy, and not a 'hard-wired' one. why record one xlr mic on two channels?
i would love to have a shotgun mic on channel 1 + a 'safe backup' of the internal mic on channel two if possible..

dee I understand your point. Though I wouldnt say recording to the internal mic is a safe backup, more like a crappy backup. I would try to utilise your xlrs and external mics in all circumstances.

hi noel,
agree, it's probably a crappy backup but say for a simple interview you'd take a shotgun mic which should work fine on its own but maybe there's a pop or crackle you didn't notice, that could have been covered up a bit with the internal mic track. you don't always want to have two cables dangling around for stuff that usually goes right....

btw o.t. do you live in tokyo? wow..
