This would help with DoF right, that would be amazing, even if it had the same look (quality). Get a better DoF, people would buy this simply because they could avoid the 35mm adapter.
 
That's when I think you run into a bit of a political issue with the broadcast lens division. I would think Sony and Panasonic wouldn't promote Canon lenses at all if they ventured into the larger sensor, ENG cam market.

Who knows? Anything's possible but I think Canon Video has its ceiling too.
 
as long as the firestore doesn't record the same timecode that is recorded to tape, it's not worth it to me. I wonder if that new sony HDD recorder will work with canon F modes.

As far as tapeless......If Canon made it possible to record a single mpeg2 25mbps 24p video file that contains the audio+video+timecode information in that one file on a CompactFlash cards, I would feel safe in dropping tape alltogether. Because at the price point of a 8gb CF card recording almost an hour of video....it's worth it.

Yeah I think we will see a XL H1s this year. HDSDI upgrades and maybe a image flip function and HDMI output. Thats about it. And charge the same price. What would be really killer is if they made a version of the XL H1 without HDSDI but with hdmi for $6000. That would be a cool camera. Pro body and easy/cheap uncompressed.

The real kick in the pants would be to have canon launch an XLh1s and have it come with a full manual HD lens instead of the 20x servo. Then they could sell the existing one as an add-on if you like that sort of thing. Of course they could sell the manual lens seperate too. I think there is still a large amount of users who avoid canon XL/XH series because of their len controls, and Canon could tap into this with a pro manual HD lens.
 
Being an H1 owner I would have to agree that the XL/XH series greatest strength and weakness has been interchangeable lenses. It's strengths is that there are adapters on the market that allow you to use a myriad of lenses (with magnification caveats, of course). It's weakness is that Canon's lens options for its own camera have always seemed weak. While I think the new 6x HD lens is a great piece of glass for the money, I wish Canon had a little more faith in its user base to spend a little more money on other lens options (like a manual HD lens and some basic primes). They're a lens company after all.
 
what would be interesting, is a 6-8X manual lens, nothing crazy, but wide, and COMPLETELY manual, but since its not pushing too much telephoto, its optics can be higher quality.

The usefull ness of a SUPER high quality, Wide/low medum tele Lens ithink would be more valuable to a shooter like me who doesnt often need 20x. but would like fully manual, CLEAN optics. I hate the CA on the long end of the HVX lens. i wish it stopped at 10X and was CA free.

What if apollo didn't catch fire then you wouldn't have that quote. :)
Anyway what if's are not meaningless. When you are negotiating a price of a car and the seller says what if I take some money off the price. That is a big what if that usually works and means everything. So

Canon rep. at our meeting last week said no release of anytrhing but a consumer level camera in September. Unless someone never told him.

Don't like the air in the bubble, Canon's product anouncements are always clear. 'This is the product - you can buy it next month.' No bubble hype.
 
How about variable framerates? I know AVCHD can only handle 24p, 25p, 30p, 50i, 50p, 60i and 60p but they could use pulldowns. Also, I like the idea that it could record to both AVCHD and HDV.

They need it to be cheap. Way cheaper than a certain $17,500 camera.
