XHA1 Prices all over the map????

So, prices range from 4 grand to 1...and it seems the only real difference is the warranty. Since most cameras don't go out in the first year anyway, isn't it a better deal to go with the lesser priced ones? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if I down convert from HD to DV, is it a better picture than just straight DV from a DVX100B?

No, the real difference is that the cheapo places are lying scumbag thieves. Frauds. Check 'em out on resellerratings.com.

You're not going to get an XHA1 for much less than what B&H or Abel or places like that sell it for.

But I´m curious to know what happend to the rebate. I was about to pull the trigger end of December but then decided to wait what the new year will bring. When I checked beginning of January, the $250 Dollar rebate was renewed until end of March. But now nobody seem to offer the rebate anymore. Can´t find it on B&H, can´t find it on newegg etc... Does anybody know what`s going on?

So, if a camera doesn't have the factory warranty, it's considered gray market. But, is that a bad thing??? Maybe they don't have the right battery, but batteries aren't that expensive. There are many cameras offered at 2000-2600. What are you getting for that? You have to be getting something. I went full boat on my dvx100b and then, after the year flew by and the warranty was no good, thought, maybe I shoulda gone the cheaper way...any thoughts?

You have to be getting something.
Actually, you don't. These places are trying to trick you. They lie about how you have to buy the battery, remote, or even lens separately. They will do all kinds of shady things, like charge your card, and then start the hard sell, so when you try to back out, you have to contest the charge. These places will even charge your card if they don't have the item in stock! It's pretty hard to believe until it happens to you.

As tempting as it seems, you have to realize that it is a scam. Listen to Barry. Read the horror stories at resellerratings.com.

It's possible to get the XHA1 for a good deal. I bought mine from Ebay but made sure it was from some regular seller and not some sort of gray market store. I bought the camera last May for $2850 BRAND NEW. Accessories and everything...

Ebay

Ebay

Did you buy it from one of the bigger resellers like "Digital Shoppingnetwork" or from a more private style listing? I'm looking at auctions, they are hovering from 2800 to 3000.

Those guys are borderline gray market dealers. Order from them and they'll endlessly try to convince you to get worthless "upgrades." Not quite as bad as the Crooklyn crowd, but I can almost guarantee you won't be saving much buying from them.
