Xbox 360 Kinect!

Yeah, the tracking is just fine. But the face recognition and pics are not all that great in the room.
Probably because I have pot-lights that shoot down on the floor and not at the individuals facing.

I could add a lamp but I'm not sure I want to. I need an extension cord though.
The extra room would be nice.

I did my first personal training session on Your Shape and holy crap...I am nowhere near as fit as I thought I was. I jog 45 minutes at least twice a week and do 45 minutes of weights twice a week and this thing kicked my ass.

I'm not sold on it yet. Same with Sony's Move for the PS3. Once more games are out that utilize these devices, then I might bite.

Right now, I'm in more need of a larger hard drive for my 360.

I need more games. I got the wii thinking movement games are the next big thing. To be honest they're tiring, and most are "party" games for several people and fitness games. Not my thing. I want to strangle an alien with my bare hands, not chop my hands up and down quickly.

So is that what you are doing in your avatar?

I'll tell you one thing that's great about the kinect. If you have hyperactive children it will wear them out in no time flat. That alone was worth the 150 bucks.

Whoa. Some wild things happening with hacked Kinects. Check this out--

Holy moley!

My brain is just going into creative overdrive.

More Kinect hacking coolness--

The way we use computers is going to change. So fast we won't even know what hit us.

This plus auto-stereoscopic displays and who ever needs a physical keyboard or mouse again? Or jog shuttle?
Heck, build one (backwards) into video glasses... Take augmented really to the next level: Why click on something for more information, when you can simply point at it?
Link them with others. How about I see the marker *you* are pointing at? And can interact with it?
Throw it into Google Earth or Bing maps. Add On-star. Lost? just ask for help and a virtual guide - working from their office with a 3D monitor appears next to you. Telepresence at the next level.

Ok, I've gotta stop and get back to work. Suddenly coding a MySQL database seems more lame than ever.

That's what I'm saying.

Getting the technology down to this sort of cost and out to the masses is what will produce applications to make it easier. Think of what gestures & multi-touch have done for touchscreens?

Eventually we might not be be "using" computers ... they might simply be responding to us.

by "typing" wherever whenever you want, with the convinience of a full keyboard.

Or just get one of those brainwave scanner headbands, and just dream up your script and the computer will write it out for you.

Or. How about a nice game of chess with Sarah Connor?

I got to play this thing a couple of days ago. I'm still sore. It was fun for like a party environment. The dance game was actually fun, and I learned some kick ass moves lol, I'll bet the exercise programs would be fantastic. Now that I have played it, I need to find a way to fit one into my budget. Very cool!

I used one of these in Best Buy a few days ago, it's amazing where technology has gone. This has a huge range of applications in my mind, gesture interfaces have always been extremely fascinating to me. Integrate this with a touchscreen and I'll buy, regardless of what it does. It did seem pretty laggy to me in the store, but for first generation I'm impressed. Microsoft did very well giving a big middle finger to Nintendo.
