As Frank said: the German was genuine!
And of course everything else looked perfect!
I just wonder why everyone uses kind of the same CC? I know this desaturated look fits the mood and weather, but it also makes movies like this look a lot like the other...
A Very Long Engagement is a WWI movie...
This looks good, glad to see a fellow 7D user making another WWII movie.
Here's the teaser for mine, shot on the 7D and 5DM2! Good luck with your film!
Nicely done! Looks awesome. In good hands that camera is a formidable tool.
(In a formidable tool's hands, not so much.)
How did you expose to make your life easier for grading?
The audio sounded nice and clean. Love it.
sweet, I really like it a lot!
How long is it? It looks like your storyline will be interesting too, does it take place in Germany or Japan? The scene with the boats and everything had me wondering.
Re-Enactors used for this? I'm sorry to ask so many questions, I'm just curious how you did it :]
The only thing I saw that was a big no-no was the medic firing a gun, regardless of their situation the Geneva Convention said they weren't allowed to fire; though you could easily say that it was the end of the war or something when it didn't matter as much and the Germans started killing the medics anyway and they started firing back.
Please, let me know when this film is done. I would love to watch it, I always am up for more WWII films.

The film will be about 30 minutes and it takes place in Europe.
No, I didn't use re-enactors. I figured I'd rather use real actors and dress them up as soldiers. The re-enactors I found couldn't act for shi*.
As for the medic, yes, the story does take place during the last week of WWII (May 3rd 1945) and my medic is carrying around a fire arm for self-defense. It is explained in the movie![]()
Nice! I didn't mean to tear your thing down at all with my comments, I was just curious if you knew that or not. I ended up using a group of hardcore re-enactors that will do anything and everything to create historical accuracy and authenticity and just happened to get lucky with the fact that they were all really decent actors. Under my direction I was able to get them to really let loose and have a good time with it, I ended up getting them to do all the acting for a stack of 10 pizzas, a couple cases of beer, screen credit and portrait style photographs. They are a great bunch of guys and I couldn't have gotten luckier than to shoot this whole thing for such a small budget. I just turned 23 two weeks ago and I don't really have a ton of money that is extra per month to use for budget on a film, so I have been doing my best to accommodate.
I'm really looking forward to your film, the music in the trailer gives it a nice feel as well. Who did the composing of your score, by the way? I saw another clip where the guy shot himself under the tree and I was just curious about the music.
Also - was the armor real or composited in there? Very cool stuff!!!
Again; very well done!!!
Well, I'm on a tight budget myself so I'm doing pretty much everything. Write Direct DP Edit Music VFX... My day job as a CG artist also helps with my films production value. The armor was all CG![]()
Well it depends, I have at least 15 vfx shots I still need to work on myself so I'm pretty swamped. If you can give me more detail on what the exact effect is and what needs to be done to it, ill get a better idea and we can work something out. I'm looking for a few people to help me out on fx as well, haha...
I may be able to help you both out with effects. PM me with the details.
Someone on Cinema5D.com asked to see some color graded footage next to some uncolor graded, so here are a few samples for now:
I like the colors but I think theres too much contrast. I'd like to see a few more details in the shadows, just a few. In the first shot, the highlights feel a bit too blown on the hand. Just my 2 cents.
I might be able to help out with VFX as well but I'm still uncertain about me new work schedule.
Edit:
Heres a quick pass I did on the first shot with lightroom 3, about 3 minutes worth. Wow LR is fast for this stuff.

Hmm, actually that's not such a bad suggestion. I like your color correction on it, it seems to retain a bit more detail too. Thanks for that, I will definitely try to mimic that!
Good luck trying to mimic it in anything other than Lightroom (stills editing, but can batch sequences). I've got 3 colored and graduated filters going and natural film grain.
Do you mind if I use that shot to show how still image editors can do some great stuff much faster than dedicated video editors?
