Check out these couple of clips I posted to Vimeo from an upcoming short film I'm working on. I have high hopes and ambition and I am going to enter it into Sundance for 2011. I know that's a big goal, but hey - I'm ambitious about this!

I hope you guys enjoy it, it's pretty short but it's just a taste of what's being worked on. It's also still somewhat rough.

Great footage - looks fantastic. Can't wait to see an actual teaser when released. How much of it is already shot?

HAHA looks great! Only downside is you cut it too short and should set it up more like a teaser.

Very nice and looks outstanding.

Thank you!

I would venture to say about 50% of it is shot. We got hit by a lot of snow after our last shoot, so we have been on hold with the rest of the principal photography. Outside of that, we have a couple little scenes to do, audio dubbing and effects compositing. We did as much stuff for real as we could (minus firing an MG42, we had to fake that one, as well as grenade explosions) so there really won't be a TON of effects to composite.

I directed and shot it, edited and color graded it using a mix of Magic Bullet and Apple Color.

We will probably be releasing a teaser sometime in April, and I'll post it up when it's ready.

Thanks again!

I appreciate the compliments and I will make sure to put a nice teaser out in the near future!

Nice stuff. Perhaps its just the hard sunlight plus color grading, but it feels overexposed. I like the authentic feel and the German sounds really genuine (as a non-speaker). Look forward to seeing more.

Great looking and great sounding - what else can you say?

Keep us updated and good luck!

Wow this looks really good!
btw (not hating on your short) but why are there no WWI Short Films?

It's the forgotten war - millions dead, but nothing even remotely "cool" about it. Just guys in trenchs dying by the thousands...

Too depressing.

These guys also do WWI re-enacting, but it's just like John said: It was an absolutely brutal war. It involved no strategy, old war tactics and new technology (machine guns, gas, etc) and just mass amounts of deaths. The whistle blew, people jumped up over into no-mans land and they got gunned down... most the time they didn't even make it 10 yards. Sometimes, there weren't even much more than 10 yards to go between the trenches and they couldn't make it. It was a brutal war.

If you want to see a movie about it, that says it all, watch Gallipoli (I think thats how you spell it?) with Mel Gibson. He spends the movie eager to get to war, then he gets to the front line, whistle blows, movie's over. That's how anti-climatic the movie is; but then again, that's just all there really is to show.

Thanks for the compliments, and I hope you found some kind of informational value in what I just said, haha

have a nice night!!

A Very Long Engagement is a WWI movie...

This looks good, glad to see a fellow 7D user making another WWII movie.

Here's the teaser for mine, shot on the 7D and 5DM2! Good luck with your film!

Great job, and the Germans actually speak real German.
Looking forward to the whole shebang.

For the sake of it, here is one I did 3 years ago.
It mimics a WWII Signal Corps news reel and feature some GIs setting up a camp at a Bavarian farm and mine defusing.

The "Endeckung" German word sounds genuine (I speak German but not native) :) Really nice grading .....

Nicely done! Looks awesome. In good hands that camera is a formidable tool.

(In a formidable tool's hands, not so much.)

How did you expose to make your life easier for grading?
