Wow, a P2 (MXF) player!

After seeing what could be done by outputting finished files from the timeline back to the P2's (at the NYC Boot Camp, which was stunning). I made the decision to step up for the Panasonic BT-LH1700W monitor . . . can't afford the projector that they used, and the 50" Plasma would be a bit much to drag around.

PC based workflow, I'm using Xpress Pro HD and Broadcast (recently Broadcast has become a favorite). The camera plays the file out to the 1700 flawlessly. Anyhow . . .

What I'd really like to see in the next generation (yeah, I know, "wishlist" probably ain't gonna happen), but it sure would be dandy if we could record back to the P2Store and then be able to output the files to a monitor.

I suspect it would take some effort but, IMHO, the P2Store is darn near bulletproof and as long as most of us that have them are wishing for a larger drive next go 'round I though I'd throw that in.

hmmm . . . You go Jan!!!

It should not be that hard and at the price it makes sense. I have a new Sony stand alone DVD burner and it has a small LCD so you can see what is being recorded and it was like $150 or something. P2 Store should have a monitoring screen and some video outs... that would make a ton more sense. The P2 Deck is pretty awesome but not practical for most of us, a post house I freelance for has one and it is a nice machine.

That is the deck I was referencing... the point is that the P2 Store is GROSSLY overpriced for what it does... GROSSLY... you could buy a NICE laptop with a bigger HDD, DVD-burner, etc. etc. etc. for less that works almost the same once you add some $30 software...

I think that deck is grossly over priced-
I mean for 15 grand you could get 2 HVX's and some P2 media-
and use them for playback. onto your Panasonic monitor.

"Optional SDI/IEEE 1394 Compatibility - You can expand your possibilities by adding optional serial digital (SDI) input/output and IEEE 1394 interfaces." For lord sake . . . 15k and we still have to pay for a firewire i/o. Give me a break!

Mikko- That's it! Ha ha . . . something along those lines anyway, only in a "Lite version" is more like what I was thinking. I frequently carry the P2Store in a small fanny pack (belly pack is more like it) along with a couple extra batteries for the camera when I am doing hand held work in the field. I love the portability. It would be fun to go see the client with something equally as portable that could play finished files out to an HD monitor without having to drag the camera along. That'd be totally cool.

The problem with a laptop, ...it is BIG and HEAVY compared to a P2 Store.

With a big crew, no problem though.

Not really... even the microlaptops have PC Card slots and pretty long battery life.
