So, lets' just run a little poll here. 3 options. How important is it really to you? Would it impact your buying decision one way or another, etc...?

3 options. Vote in the poll, please.

If the 170 does not have it it would be a reason for me to go for the 500 although this is probably not clever to tell in this forum since if Panasonic will read it it will be for sure a reason not to implement it in the 170 :-)))

I would absolutely want/need this feature. I would hope that all future cameras will include this functionality.

I would be ok with it being an extra cost factory upgrade (ala the A1) if it were going to increase the cost of the camera. I have no problem paying a few to 500 more to add it after the fact, so as not to add cost to those that don't want it. But, if most people want it, then I sure hope it's an out of the box feature.

I have a PAL client that I work for about 4 times a year and I always have rent a camera for their shoot. It would be great to have this camera switchable.

Most production equipment (and any serious stuff) these days is dual format. Just as most power supplies - especially for gear that moves, like laptops - are 120v / 240v switchable.

The one peice of equipment most likly to travel - the camera - needs to be dual format.

This is a no-brainer. In a global economy, the ability to have global equipment is critical. Please Panasonic, follow in the steps of Sony and make PAL a standard frame rate on the 170.

looks like 80% would like to have at least the possibility of the 170 to be PAL/NTSC switchable. But we get now 20 framerates in stead of 12 and maybe there will be just one 170 where 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p and 60p already are included in the 20 fram rates so maybe this thread is no issue. Lets hope for the best

I agree. At least PAL frame rates as a feature is mandatory. One could always shoot in 720 25p and convert the resolution down to PAL SD if standard PAL resolution was required. Without PAL/NTSC switchability on the HVX170, the sony cameras look an attractive alternative.

Well I really need this feature, and would determine if I have to reconsider using panasonic camera's to something else.

And i LOVE panasonic, so please add this feature!

This is ridiculous in todays day and age and international travel/projects becoming so common NOT to have this. IT absolutely should be included.

Plus it would save Panny $$ on producing two separate models.

That isn't necessarily true. It is possible Panasonic deliberately made two versions so that it could price the NTSC and PAL models differently, knowing most users would not want to buy out of country grey market cams if the video format would be different.

If there was only one version, there would be nothing stopping people from buying from overseas to get it cheaper (aside from warranty issues, of course).

And overseas shipping costs, too. But what does it matter where someone buys the camera, panasonic sells it to the person they buy it from, right?
