C100: Worth holding onto C100 mkii?

Hi everyone

I'm contemplating selling my beloved C100 mkii. I now have access to a C300 mkii and I am using my C100 less and less.

Based on the fact it's been out now over 2 years.... Surely the mkiii is near. It seems that 8bit 420 will be upgraded to 10bit 422 HD only probably....

Would it be worth holding onto? I'm worried that if I keep it for another 5 months I'll lose a good 1.5k value wiped off

I've never been one to sell "old" gear, because it's usually worth more to hang on to it if you need it, than its monetary worth on the used market(at least by the time I'd be considering pulling one of cams from service). There are lots of guys that take the philosophy of always selling their "previous" camera to finance their "new" camera or that this gear is somehow an "investment". BUT if you're in a market segment that is always "needing"(client wants) the newest and you're on the leading edge of the wave and can sell the old cam for a great price, go for it. But if you can continue to get the work with the "old" camera and command your going rate, milk it for every penny. If it's paid off, it's all gravy.

If you sell it then what is going to be your b-cam/backup camera?

I find several instances where I prefer the C100 Mark II over the C300 Mark II due to it's smaller size and weight, and perfect positioning of the LCD screen (no fiddling around to reposition it, pressing "mirror", etc., as I often do on the C300 Mark II). Weddings, for one. Last week I filmed a three day convention which I probably walked 15 miles for, carrying a C100 Mark II (and tripod), rather than the 3-4 lb heavier C300 Mark II. C100 Mark II works fine on the Glidecam HD4000, C300 Mark II is a bit on the heavy side for it.

C100 Mark II and C300 Mark II were announced, and then started shipping several months after their initial announcement. If the C100 Mark III gets announced at NAB in April, it could still be several months from then until it's shipping.

Thanks for the replies folk.

My backup would be the xc15 x2. I agree the C100 mkii is substantially lighter for weddings. I used the C300 mkii 3 weeks ago and I was cream crackered (knackered).

I just know the mkiii will come out and I can get closer to my 300mkii with it. When pushing the grade on the 8bits to match.... Unless I'm in log theres not much I can do for corrections incase of a bad setting for an unexpected scene.

Now if they just released a Canon micro cine camera haha
