The DVX100b is still a "GEM". I wish I had 3-4 of them.

totally agree.
I never care about resolution.
HD is just too sharp and unreal. it is more then a human eye can see in real life.
Now, why would you want to see anything more then you see in real life?
Seeing this great DVX footage is making me appreciate mine even more. Check out this fest video I made this weekend. I've gotten so wrapped up in wanting shallow DOF that I've forgotten that it's not the camera, its the user (and editor!).I've said it a million times, but it's late and I need to finish this vodka, so here's my two cents again. The DVX is such a wonderful camera. Rent a couple movies- "Incident At Loch Ness" and "Iraq In Fragments". Both shot on the DVX. And both uprezzed to HD and projected on 35mm film. The quality of this camera is outstanding.
And since everybody is jumping on the HD cameras, you can find a DVX100B with low hours at a good price with money left over for a tripod and UV filter. Because your new camera will need a tripod and a UV filter. This is important. Your new camera will need a tripod and a UV filter!
As far as compressing videos for the web, the DVX footage can look great. I use the free MPEGStreamclip program: http://www.squared5.com/ It gives fantastic results. I don't know what was used to compress these two videos for the web, but they're both shot on the trusty ol' DVX and look damn fine:

Edit: If you're not focusing on narrative work or interview type situations you could skip the tripod. But for the love of god and all that is good get an inexpensive UV filter to protect that lens!
umm. no.
lets not make the argument that the dvx is better because it shoots lower resolution because that argument is just completely ridiculously wrong. To appreciate it more you might want to start watching more movies on blu-ray, and then if it is still your serious contention that dvd quality looks better or more 'real' than blu-ray than fine (im rolling my eyes btw).
Hey Chuck, you can't even buy one here in OZ anymore, no one has them and they are listed as discontinued.Speaking of the DVX and B&H, I noticed last week (and still this week) B&H is out of DVXs.
"Out of Stock" and "Taking Orders".

Never seen that before.
I wonder if they're carrying fewer these days or what???
I looked at HMC150 but my Macbook pro isn't fast enough to edit AVCHD, so I'd also have to upgrade that.
To each his own. No need to slam the guy because of his opinion, just as I won't slam yours even though it differs from mine.
Yeah, hold up...the hmc can shoot SD? first time i hearing anything of that sort.
Has anyone seen the HMC footage? Here some that wasn't shot like a home movie on vimeo: http://www.vimeo.com/4759740
If I had this to do all over again, I would go HMC. You can buy the SD cards on the cheap, and the footage is sweet. yes, in SD or HD. It is the successor to the DVX. There were early issues with the codec and transfer to Final Cut, but since have seemed to have cleared up. I would look into it, but the HMC seems the way to go for ultra low budget, fine quality HD.
That being said, My DVX has brought several awards (including a Telly,) so it really is a piece of work. Always impressed with its footage and light sesitivity!
OFF TOPIC - BTW, I see a lot of talk about "UPREZZING" SD footage. I haven't come across a program that does this. Is this from the Magic Bullet suite? What program are you using to Upres?
Thanks!
