Don't forget that H264 encoding tends to wash out colors and flatten the blacks. I bet the native footage is even better looking than what we're looking at.

A voice of reason. For really, really compressed footage...this looks pretty good for us. Wait until we see true DVCPRO-HD footage!!!

Hey guys, the image looks very messy in the dark areas. Might I assume that it is the compression artifacting? It is actually very distracting and obvious to me...don't get me wrong, I want one of these cameras! I am pretty sure it is the heavy compression...

Jarred could you post an uncompressed still frame or two?

Thanks for the footage!

Russell

**EDIT

Weird! It looks 1000x better on my Powerbook as compared to my Dell flatpanel on my work PC!

Good point Luis. I think these samples here look better than most native HDV I've seen. Damn this camera will rock.

Yeah, there's tons of banding and artifacting in the darker areas of the 720P clip. The highlights make it look like the camera has about 7 stops which is about right. The blue bleeding/fringing is what i'm curious about. Could be the codec.

This is like watching the slow death of my DVX.

Not just yet....
I don't know about you but the DVX is still giving me a very decent living.
While this is exciting...and it is... I know people don't hire me for the camera I'm working with. So don't get down just yet.
