Hi guys, the thing is, how can I export HD video ?
The way I think I would export the edited video to a mini dv tape and then send it to the tv station.
I realize that the tape recorder on the HVX cannot record HD video, so, how do I export the hd video?
Do I have to buy one of those very expensive Panasonic VCRs ?
Do I have any other way to get around this ?
Please, I'm kinda desperate here, any help would be useful.

You don't have to BUY a DVCPro deck, but I'd highly suggest RENTING one...the PANASONIC AJ-HD1400 is the one you want....if that is not an option, does the TV station have an edit system you can bring the HD quicktime to for them to lay off?
 
First off I wouldn't suggest using a dv tape to export your DvcPro HD footage. That would mean converting/recompressing to HDV first before being able to export to either a canon or sony HDV camcorder, so you would start losing quality right off the back. My suggestion to you is keep the maximum amount of quality you can afford. This could mean getting an expensive deck but there are alot of other options. There are host websites that allow you to e-mail very large files. Or you could do what I do. I send alot of footage to a stock footage company and the way I get it to them is by overnighting a portable hard drive with all of the footage, sometimes as much as 100gb of footage. This means I can send them the best quality clips as pssible because they are the same as the originals (no recompression). So, if it is feesable for you, export your project using the same codec as it was recorded (DvcPro HD 1080, 720) and sent it away on a hard drive and once they've recieved and downloaded it have them send the drive back. I hope this helps you, it has helped me out a bunch and saved me money not having to buy more expencive recording equipment. Let me know if you have anyu other questions.

Thanks a lot guys, that was really helpful.Just one more question, if I do export the hd video from my NLE to the camcorder it will be recorded as SD or it wont record at all ?
 
If your using your HVX then yes. You will have to convert your HD project to teh desired SD format and then rerecord it via firewire to your camera deck. If you want to export in a firewire streamed HDV codec do the same steps but use a compatable camera like a sony HDV or Canon.
 
haha, ok, just one more thing, can I record directly from the camera to a premiere pro cs3 on a notebook ?
 
I second the hard drive. We have delivered many shows via hard drive and have never had a problem.

Can I export a premiere timeline 1080 24p from a hvx camera to tape
using a canon hv20 as a deck ? If not, what options do I have to export to tape ?

Sorry, what I meant is, i edited a video from an hvx, lets say, 1080 24p using adobe premiere cs3. I wanna know if I can export it to tape using a hv20 (that records 1080 24p to tape) as a deck .
 
As I stated in another thread...DVCPRO HD out to tape as HDV via firewire? I highly doubt it.

Rent a Panasonic 1400 deck and output to DVCPRO HD tape...as McGee suggested.

But then again...what will the TV station take as a master tape? Will they take DVCPRO HD tape? HDV tape? HDV isn't a mastering format typically...shooting only.

Second, HDV is a different format that DVCProHD.

To record to the HV20, I would imagine, would require you to nest the DVCProHD sequence in a HDV one, render the whole thing, conform and then print to tape.

Might want to tell us what platform to start with.
 
You want to source and produce in DVCPRO-HD

But then you want to compress and print out HDV to the HV20 .. a perfectly reasonable plan.


Yes this should be possible, but you will need to render to an intermediary format, or - as sugested - nest timelines to perform the conversion.

The only tape that you can record DVCPRO-HD to is ... DVCPRO-HD tape. That's the way tape works. You can only record BetaSP to a BetaSP tape.

You could dub your DVCPRO-HD footage over to Beta tape, but in the process you'll find that it's downconverting from HD down to standard-def and will lose tremendous amounts of quality. BetaSP is a standard-def format only, about equivalent to DV.
