Will Pay Someone to Perform GH2 Hack - NYC ASAP.

I'm pressed for time and have failed to successfully install the GH2 Driftwood 176 GOP1 hack. All the patches on Personal View don't seem to download on my MBP (or anyone else's for that matter). I've tried Ptools but haven't been able to find a comprehensive list of all the settings. So every time I install the hack, something's off. Currently, I've inadvertently disabled my playback with my most recent install. We have one camera with a stable 176 hack but nobody had the good sense to write down the settings or remember where we go them from. We need to install it on the other two.

I'm based in NYC and will pay someone to install and test this hack. Needs to be done tomorrow.

Any help would be appreciated. Ideally, I'd love someone in person to do this in NYC, but if you can walk me through either over the phone or set up a proper tutorial, list every setting in Ptools and it works, I can pay you that way as well. I'm a working DP in NYC. I've got a good reputation on this site for buying and selling gear. In short, you will get paid.

I hope you find someone to help you out. However, if you can't install a simple firmware update with how to videos how are you so sure that 176 GOP1 video is going to help you? What happens if you install it and it stops recording after a few seconds because your memory card can't keep up? Now you won't be able to shoot anything.

Or what happens when you realize you need to record more than a few minutes at a time?

Really the hack can help. However, it can hurt too. So many people see these great videos and think that the Hack is what makes the videos look good. The truth is that the person behind the camera, the lenses, and the right settings all make the videos look good. The hack just resolves a few issues that only the most critical people will notice.

I am just saying that you might want to consider what is worse "Shooting with an extremely capable but reliable stock camera" or "shooting with an overly aggressive hacked camera"?

Just want you guys to be happy with the results. Can you show us examples of your footage that you think the hack will help with? Do you use a Mac or PC?
 
Thanks for the concern and more important thanks for your valuable work in hacking the GH2. I registered on Personal website a week or so ago and donated some money right away, in the hopes that one day there would be a hack for my GH2 and Ninja Atomos to get along better. I purchased the EOSHD guide also.

What, I don't think you understand is TIm and certainly myself are very competent professional DPs who are a bit gun shy about hacking firmware with certain time constraints. I would feel loads better if I could sit with someone and they show me how it is done. I don't think it is a stretch in film making to hire someone to do something for you.. be it make-up, sound, or editing as a few examples. I admit to being very afraid of bricking my GH2. Im in a tough spot because I need some of those features/benefits enabled by a certain hack to use in a shoot this week. Im willing to take a calculated risk and use a hack but not to do it myself the first time. I am willing to lessen that risk by hiring someone who knows what they are doing to guide me and to carry a original firmware on an SD card just in case. The first time in PTools is scary. Im just not from a world/time where I am yet comfortable with the idea of firmware being changed by the user.

We know that its not the tool but how you use it. If i'm to be chastised for anything it is waiting to get this done so last minute before I have to deliver to my client. Yes, there is a ton of info out there but sometimes its misleading, leaves out a crucial step, assumes you know this or that, isn't a tutorial tailored to your specific needs, and over all overwhelming to shift through.

I am reminded of the cell phone industry how you can take your phone and have it "flashed" for a fee by a professional tech. I don't think this is that much of a stretch. People on mobile-files.com are more then happy to help and take some money.

Not sure whether you have problem loading the PTool v3.63d firmware or you are just having problem with recorded clips after the firmware upgrade.
Just incase you are not aware, on a mac, you need the free application winebottler to open PTool v3.63d. I'm sure we can walk you through the process, it's not rocket science if you don't go too deep into it and tweak the settings.

Watch this video. Pause it on each screen and then navigate there. If you still can't get it after that maybe the hack just isn't for you. What is it that you hope to gain from the hack?

C'mon man. Stop drawing negative conclusions. They are just not as savy as you with electronics (or whatever). What is it that anyone who desires to hack hopes for? Different reasons for different people...but in the end.....a better choice than what they currently have in terms of a codec and IQ. Be nice about it.

I'm pretty sure that you have to be LOGGED IN as a member of Personal View to download the hacks. This caught me out the first time I tried as well.

It can be overwhelming at first, but if you can get someone to show you once, I'm sure you will be confident doing it yourself going forward.

Hell, I think that makes you a creative. Everything seems to be last minutes. Good luck getting the hack done and with your shoot.

That is just good wholesome advice. Too many people jump into it just because some people say that without the Hack it just isn't worth shooting. I really just want everyone to understand what they are trying to achieve before jumping into it.

If they are not technical enough to follow step by step instructions then what makes them think they are prepared to deal with write failures and hard battery restarts. How many "The hack ruined my footage" threads have been started lately. I am just trying to prevent it from ever getting to that point. That doesn't help anyone.

You are 100% correct here. I would not risk a critical job without knowing what to do in case of a problem with the hack getting the camera stuck in any way in the middle of a production. You will either need an extra GH2 with no hack for back-up or know how to revert to the original firmware. Better yet you can hire the person that will hack it for you to come along as insurance on the shoot!

That is precisely what I am talking about. They will not only need someone to hack it but they need someone to support it after that. And this person can’t just be anyone who knows how to apply firmware.

It really needs to be someone that has thoroughly tested the particular settings they are installing. They need to have tested them with the exact same lenses and memory cards as well.

I really don’t understand why someone would risk getting no footage at all for the chance that there might be an incremental gain in a portion of their footage. If you know what you are doing and your settings are designed specifically for your needs it is fantastic. Otherwise it is just throwing reliability out the window for nothing.

I agree. I don't understand how a professional can walk into a situation without a fully tested camera, especially for a next day shoot. For me that spells suicide.

And yes, is the increase in quality really worth the anxiety?
