Will Panasonic develope a prosumer VCRIL?

First of all, sorry about my poor language.

Some month ago I wrote here asking Panasonic for a prosumer VCRIL (Video CamRecorder with Interchangeable Lens). The answer for some people could be GH2 or AF100, but the answer for me is 'Not yet'.

I am sure that GH2 is a very good camera for recording video with very high quality image. But I also think it is not a camera designed for a video recorder like me:
  • Does GH2 have motorized zoom? There are many recordings where I am ZOOMingIN and ZOOMingOUT during the clip. ¡I need it!
  • Can the GH2 video recording operated with remote control, like infrared, wireless,...? I need to manage the camcourder without my hands, in order to avoid the movements coming from the hands operation ¡I need it!
I am sure AF100 will have these functions, but AF100 was designed and priced thinking in professional videographers, not in video prossumers or high video consumers like me.

Does anyone know if Panasonic has any plans to deploy a prossumer or highconsumer VCRIL?

Thanks,
SiriNeos

PD: Sorry again for my poor english

AF100 do not have any power zoom ability.

And remotes are only wired professional ones.

I do not think that you'll see such camera in near future.
May be song VG10 is near your expectations. But no power zoom and I don't know about remote.

Are you VHS or Betamax? And what are you smoking?

Thanks Vitaliy.

I have both in my Canon HV30: 4 zoom speeds and a Infrared remote control. I think they are also in the Panasonis TM700. But those VCR have small size sensors (1x 1/2,3'' and 3x1/4'') and fixed lens.
These two functions are mandatory for good sports recording. Maybe is not mandatory for film recording.

Panasonic, please make plans for a GH2 with remote control and motorized zoom.

What functions do you need the remote control to perform? If you only need to control shutter release, then that is possible with either a Panasonic stock or one of the aftermarket units, some of which are "wireless".

Motorized zoom, at least currently (in the future, some variation of GH2's Extended Telephoto feature might implement that in "software"), requires motors in the lens that control zoom. Currently, no such modern lenses exist. However, it is possible to adapt either mechanical (follow focus gears) or electro-mechanical (intuitFocus) aftermarket accessories to control the zoom ring on lenses that have them (which is pretty much any SLR zoom lens). Also, some people have (with varying degrees of success) been able to adapt 2/3" ENG lenses with zoom servo motors. Read this thread thoroughly to understand fully the benefits and limitations of such approach.

A pro would never use AF100, not even a pro codec (nor desirable sampling). It's intented EXACTLY for peeps like you and me, if folks will afford it... well, that's Pannys problem. And ye, quite possibly that the GH2 kills of some of the AF100 market. With that said there's still a major difference between a stills camera and a video camera. Everything isn't about image quailty, that's almost a sin to state on these boards... lol.

I would like remote control of manual focus, ZOOMingIN & ZOOMingOUT, speed of the Zoom, start/stop video recording and Photo shutter.

The AF 100 its made with aspiring cinematographers in mind, people used or not bothered on focusing manually or using mostly prime lens. I have an HVX200, wonderful all around camera for TV work and commercials but don't use the automatic zoom, everything I do is manual, so doing that on a AF 100 or my GH1 is almost the same thing for me. In the end everything depends on the nature of your work and your working techniques, not the camera.

Bullshi*, I'm a pro and would prefer a AF100 to everything else.

Agreed. This crap about the codec is nonsense...if someone's actually a pro they could always just hook up an external recorder...but high quality AVCHD is great...you can't break that codec down. Sony EX1 is a strong HPX-170 competitor and uses XDCAM EX which is about the same as Panasonic's AVCHD.

Martin, you claimed that a pro would never use a AF100 and my answer was within that same context. And that Lucasfilm shoots with 5D IS RELEVANT in this topic because the 5D uses another (less lossy) compression than h264/AVCHD. It's for this same reason that I shoot with a 7D next to two GH1s but personally, as a pro, I would still prefer to work with an AF100 or GH2 because as you wrote earlier, image quality isn't everything, functionality is important too.
