C300: Will Canon Cameras Soon Shoot Vertical Video?

Just when you think this business can't get any worse...

Who remembers having to protect for 4x3 when we started shooting HD? Are we going to have to start protecting for the 3x4, now?
 
You know what's worse than vertical video?

A vertical photo with someone's head sideways.
 
The camera side of me hates this but from a producer viewpoint, this makes sense. Audio becomes secondary with the closed captioning. You can piss and moan all you want but what you cannot do is change the way people are digesting media and vertical on smartphones is the way a huge amount of content is ingested these days. Especially for news.

Is it? Seems to me whenever I'm with a regular Joe watching video on their smart phone, they simply hold the phone horizontally so the video will fill up the full screen.
