If you shoot SQUEEZE, the camera is basically doing the scaling and cropping for you, and as a result, there's a small quality gain because compression happens AFTER this resizing. Further, certain problems that might come up with interlacing are avoided. Of course, as it's already scaled and cropped, you can't re-frame in post. But for easiest workflow and a small edge in quality, shoot squeeze. (Of course, if you have a DVX100P, the original, there is no squeeze mode).
Just use Squeeze and save yourself all the hassle...
For some big fun - use the Anamorphic adapter with squeeze mode - then you get real 2.35 to 1. You have to mask in AVID, since the viewer only supports 16:9, still it can be done. What do you feel is a better choice for wanting to get that "widescreen" look with the DVX?
1. Using the "matted" black bars.
2. Using squeeze mode.
3. Shooting 4:3 and then adding the black bars in post.
I'm just curious of people's responses.
