General Wide-Angle adapter on SLR lenses?

It works but there is edge distortion. I use it on my 50mm as a cheap way to turn it into a 35mm (or so) 1.8 but I only use it on darker scenes that don't need a lot of detail.

So staying in the same realm what are the thoughts of a $50 3.5x telephoto adapter?

I am looking for a zoom to compliment my 18-55, so instead of paying $200 how would a $50 adapter look? :undecided

Thanks, that's what I figured. Is the amount of distortion worth the ~400 dollars I'd be saving? Would you mind taking a picture with it? Or even a still?

thanks.

actually it's pretty soft all over
here is the 50mm:

here is the 50mm with the Digital Concepts 0.45X Wide adapter (I realize it's not the Raynox but I think you would get simular results):

The wide adapter is a cheap solution you may get away with for a while because wide lenses for the cropped sensor are not cheap, but there are tons of cheap sharp long lenses available out there to throw limited test fund at..
Remember the add on lenses will cost you an extra stop or more which will bring that kit lens to f8 or more, Ouch.
No mater how good the glass on glass is, it will always you cost something in sharpness and speed. Plus you can't sell used adapters easily, but you can always unload a used lens for some or all your money back to the next new guy.
