Why Canon will rule the camera world...

So, for whatever reason... Most of the photographers in my local camera club are Nikon shooters. So I call Nikon to see if we can get a rep to speak at our convention next year. They promise to come up with someone, then never return any of my calls for the past month now. I call Canon this morning and within 30 minutes they call me back and offer me 4 speakers at their expense.

So guess who will be demoing cameras at our convention next year? :)

yea, Canon....and Dorothy ...and even Toto ! Sorry but that doesn´t mean didleysquat . Looks like Sony is the rising star these days .

Actually, I also called Panasonic, Sony, and Kodak and none of them have reps that do small conventions (we'll probably only have a couple thousand people). They only do the major shows. Although, Sony was willing to send literature.

Canon should get someone from the copy machine division to redesign their SLR interfaces...

Been a Nikon shooter for ugh, 30 years now. I've shot Leica, Zeiss, Fuji, Rodenstock and Nikon glass. Except for video camera's, I've never shot still through canon glass. I have no doubt that Canon is close to or on par with Nikon, though lens contrast and color correction is something of a art. Nikon managed to hit the sweet spot a long time ago, hence the preponderance of still shooters using them for every category imaginable. Canon stole the show a long time ago with IS technology, Digital imaging is not all about absolute lens quality, it's about a the whole mix. This wasn't that way 30 years ago.
Canon biz dev people are VERY smart indeed. They may keep the crown in hybrid Still/Vid for a while yet... unless they drop the ball.
Sony? Ugh! Have you ever met someone actually shooting with a Sony lately?
They dropped the ball a LONG time ago when they lost the consumer to Apple, then let Canon sneak up and grab a spot in the Prosumer vid etc. I do not trust Sony anymore.

Well, whatever your preference may be... All I know is that Canon appears to be the only company aggressively marketing their stuff everywhere to everyone. So far they are the only camera company I've dealt with that has actually done what they told me they were gonna do. Appearances being what they are... Canon appears to want it more than anyone else...

I'd LOVE to see Sony show up to the DSLR party. So far....they haven't done much. I'm not saying that they won't..but...right now...using a Sony DSLR for shooting video/moving pictures....uh....hm....does ANYONE HERE have ANY footage from a DVXUser? If so...please share. We've love to be enlightened.

"Rising star"? Hmmm....haven't seen anything from/for our community. Maybe for photography? Sorry Kurth...but Sony isn't a rising star here. I'd LOVE to see that though. Cheers!

....in a year we´ll see who´s laughing ! Canon is the most conservative camera company out there. Yes, they made some leaps but then they freeze, unable to move forward, and I own two canon dslrs´so don´t say any of this fanboycrxp. From the videos I´ve seen of the a55, the AF is already amazing and Sony has already confirmed it´s commitment to video with the firmware upgrades it will announce at Photokina. And do you think Zeiss would be releasing cp.2 lenses for the a55 ? Doubt it. I´m just reading the tea leaves. The Rising Star isn´t the brightest in the sky at that moment, It´s the one that will be the brightest when the skies full .When there´s an a99 with a 720line Evf that tilts and who knows what more, then we´ll see who´ll be selling L lenses on ebay !

I don't doubt that Sony has some good things on the horizon, but in the DSLR world they're not going to make much of a dent.

Sony is to Microsoft and the Zune, as Canon and Nikon are to Apple and the iPod.

well Handsome, you best be readin´the a55 reviews . Most are saying it´s the best aps sensor on the block so to say Sony won´t show is not even being uptodate. I´m talkin´¨outperforms the 7d sensor¨ kind of showup !

The biggest thing Sony has against it is the MASSIVE investment in Nikon, Canon glass. If Sony actually wants to woo buyers away from Nikon or Canon, they have to make a camera that works with existing investments in glass.

I can tell you that if Sony, Nikon, Panasonic or anyone else came out with a KILLER camera tomorrow at an affordable price, I'd still have to think about it simply because of the money I've spent on lenses. And I don't buy expensive lenses like a lot of others. I've got less than $5000 invested in my lenses, but that's a TON of money for me. I know some people here have tens-of-thousands invested in lenses.

If any other company wants to seriously compete and gain large market share, they have to include the ability to use existing lenses. THAT would get people to actually switch to a new exciting camera.

Also, as I mentioned initially... You have to get in peoples faces if you want to sell stuff. And Sony isn't doing much of anything to sell their cameras. I've seen 9 Canon/Nikon camera commercials on TV this week so far. I haven't seen a single Sony commercial for their cameras. Canon is sending sales people and Canon shooters anywhere and everywhere at their expense. Sony was only willing to ship me some brochures. I don't care how good their cameras might be, if people don't know about them, they won't buy them.

Sony builds cool things and then makes them 60i, puts the frame controls in the same menu as the Clock, and forces you to buy proprietary cords and media. So sick of Sony's crap.

Sony's position in the DSLR community is analogous to Microsoft in the portable digital music player community. Canon and Nikon have the marketshare and the track record. I'm not even trying to denounce Sony either. I've owned and worked with their products all my life. I loved my EX1. But the post I was responding to ignored the facts when it came to Canon and Nikon's position in all of this, regardless what Sony does.

I agree 100%

They may come out with something quite cool, eventually... but I won't be switching from my boat load of Nikon, Zeiss and Canon glass unless they make a proper mount for them.

And when did Sony ever make anything compatible with anything else:angry:

meh move along ... nothing to see here from Sony
