Who's a vegetarian?

Many scientists (ok, science is like fashion, always changing..) agree that humans are not meant to eat meat and fish. Our digestive system is perfect for vegetarian habits, not for the rest.
But who cares? We are free. Each one can do what he wants with his stomach.

My canine teeth would beg to differ :) And, so would my stomach everytime I eat broccoli... but I do like broccoli.

As would your incisors.

You guys both beat me to it. Also of note is that in the animal world all vegetarians see in dual mono for a nearly 360 degree coverage of movement... whereas all the carnivores have stereoscopic vision which is for triangulation and judgement of distances... as is necessary when making a kill.

The thing that blows my mind in this topic... as well as all the other hot button issues is the way people express their feelings on it... and the utter lack of logic. People hate logic when it puts their own view in question. Both ways.

I would love to calmly discuss a lot of issues with moral questions behind them... but I already know that it can't be done. The world is so full of people that live a near perfect duality that it drives me nuts. Choose any of the "hot button" issues and see what a person's stance is... how could they be so far one way then something seemingly related they are the total opposite.

I think it's safe to say that we are (choose one based on your beliefs) designed/evolved to eat meat... but that we are also designed/evolved to weigh logical arguments and live differently (logic, conscience) then the animals. I think it's a safe logical argument to say that we should "evolve" as a society to cause the least harm to other living things even though we may be well equipped to exploit them.

This is why I think SETI is so darn funny... what grounds would an alien lifeform have to treat us with any consideration and respect? If something is out there, and can get here... they will be of an intelligence of MAGNITUDES higher then our own... the odds favor it... we are less then 100 years into the modern age (a fraction of a fraction of a hair's width on a timeline the length of a football field) so the odds that an alien existence is in nearly perfect sync... is preposterous.

So again... using logic... if they can get here at all then the odds are that they are a million plus years beyond us... and we could sooner "share intelligence" with the monkeys... and considering that we don't think much of the "animal rights" on this planet... what makes all these scientists think that aliens will have any special consideration for us?

I'm just saying that it's convenient to have rigid views so long as we're at the top of the foodchain.

Yes I still eat meat, but there's nothing wrong with being considerate of somebody else's views.

Don't forget that many scientists, especially many between those writing tons of articles, are paid to push this or that. There were issues of scientists promoting any kind of food and many other things, just because behind them multinationals were paying for their not so scientific advice.

Been veggie for almost 20 years.

And I LOVED meat. Loved it. Any vegetarian that tells you that meat doesn't taste good is a complete and total jackass. Meat, espessially beef (iMHO) is one of of the most delicious things in the world.
