Can Avid Xpress Pro work on a laptop

I've tried loading Xpress Pro 5 onto the laptop but I get the error message: Exception: ADM_DSOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR
turning up and killing it. I don't get this because my old laptop that I bought three years ago ran Xpress Pro 4 no problems. It was a 2GHz Toshiba with 512MB of RAM. Although my new laptop is only a 1.8GHz it is a new generation "mother board" that is supposed to be just as, if not faster than the old 2GHz Toshiba Laptops. The RAM I have is also supposed to be faster.

Can anyone please tell me if Avid Xpress Pro work on a Laptop with a Reltek High Definition Soundcard if i get another sound card to put in my PCMCIA Slot?

Any help would be really apperciated.

The specs for the laptop are:

Toshiba Tecra Series - Intel Centrino Duo
MSATOTOAIV10
Genuine Intel[R] CPU
T2400 @ 1.83GHz
1.83 GHz, 521MB of RAM - I have more RAM coming to get it up to 1.5G
Graphics by ATI
Sound Device: Realtek High Definition Audio

Hmm... it does sound like a sound card issue. When Avid starts up it likes to take over audio control. If my laptop volume is muted Avid always un-mutes it and sets the volume itself when I fire it up. Is there some sort of mixer software that your sound card has? Maybe you should try uninstalling it.

I run Xpress Pro 5 just fine on my HP notebook... Pentium 4, 2.0gh, 512MB RAM, ATI video, no idea what the on-board sound is.

Everything sounds good except for the audio card. As far as I know Avid has not yet released a version of xpress pro that is compatible with realtek audio (although there was talk a while back of an update in 5.x sometime that would support it). Your best bet is to get a soundblaster pcmcia audio card, you should be ok to run avid no probs then. Hope that helps.
