I read the first production run is done, surely someone here preordered and will be using it soon and post up some coolio footage for us to gawk at? Maybe even a comparo to internal 8-bit footage?

Wanted Shogun with GH4, but it looks so good now, not sure if I'll get $2000 worth of improvement

B&H says N.Y.C. store pickup within the hour!

I did not pre-order the Shogun, as I want to be sure they have stomped out all the bugs via the GH4's HDMI port first.

The monitor on it will be worth at least $1200 of that purchase. The rest of the money will be 10bit and better codec.

yep, via a breakout cable. Worried the HDMI lag will make that a greatly imperfect solution, but eager to find out.

They just have that in-store pickup banner on every page now. They don't expect it to ship until 12/1 unfortunately.

I suspect the difference VISUALLY will be minimal, but noticable to a skilled eye. But the color correction and grading bandwidth should be more than we can monitor cheaply, today. (IE with a non-pro level monitor, maybe not see a big difference?)

It also creates ProRes files making editing easier than ACVHD or MP4. I had the Ninja 2 for C100 and even my untrained eye could see differences in the image, however, it wasn't enough for me to keep it. The C100 AVCHD holds up pretty well for my line of work. It also added unnecessary bulk to the C100.

That at said I would be really tempted to get a Shogun for the GH4 once the reviews cone in... And after Panny update the firmware to add start/stop triggering and fix the lag.

I graded lot's of GH4 4k material and I must say that having a bettter codec is greatly going to help in post. Especially when dealing with images that were shot flat. I had trouble grading flat pictures (image that has values for instance only between 30 - 80 IRE). Also it should help getting more USABLE information from the blacks. So this could help with DR a bit. Getting information from the last 2 stops in the shadows is a very risky job atm.
