I'm not going full western simply because I don't want to. I have access to horses, a western themed camp and even a stage coach If I want to pay for it. But I don't, so I won't no biggie. I just want to make a good film that fits the rules without reaching for the low hanging fruit as stated last fest. As long as Rom-Com fest does not pop up I'm down for pretty much anything.

yeah, that's pretty much me to a T. I have access to horses and amazing vistas, but my desire for a 'cowboy hat and boots' short is nearly nil. I enjoy it from time to time, but assembling good costumes and getting out there just isnt floating my boat.

well if you don't have horses, guns, cowboy hats you will have to get the idea across. You will have to get a western theme across some other way. Dennis Hopper said Easy Rider was a western. Two outlaws on bikes etc. It should be fun to see what people come up with.....but again no one knows what the rules are yet.

Here's a "western" that could have been cut to the 6 minute time limit.

I'm definitely going full western! *yeeha!*
I will look for: Horses, full costume w/ hats, guns (& revolvers), actors who can pull of the thick country accent, and would love to get me a ghost town

You think Kathryn Bigelow is up for a reprise role in one of our efforts???

I'd think perhaps she'd be interesting in a career reboot right about now...

I am looking in to doing one as well. Im looking for a location and outfits. Renting is just way to expensive thou. I have to have out how to make this work.

that's a shame, I could see you making a poetic, epic western tale full of romantacism with those resources so readily available.

They don't have to look like Roy Rogers to be a cowboy

I do appreciate the vote of confidence, but I already did that sans cowboy hats, it was called Aetas. I think Ken Kupelian (Chazmo), my coproducer from Aetas is going to try something and I'll help him.

My resources are "readily available", but expensive and extremely time consuming, plus I don't know where to get good costumes other than the laborious and spendy process of piecing them out from online vendors (my hero outfit from Aetas cost me over $500) or tons and tons of Goodwill/Salvation Army hunting, even then that's not going to get you good leather holsters, leather dusters, hats, spurs, etc, so just properly outfitting two cowboys would easily cost me over $1000, assuming I get horses and full tack for free.

I actually have a great idea for a 'modern western' so to speak involving two girls, but it seems the ground rumblings are that this has to be a visual western, mine doesnt involve scenery or cowboy hats.

Remember, country accents are for the south, not the west. At that time there were a lot of immigrants settling, so you had a broad variety of accents. Might be why us in the south west, don't really have much of an accent.

well we all have accents down here so I might just have to go with the south. although I would like to go west. So I'll see how I go with it.

wouldn't be easier if groups managed to co-operate, and make a small set somewhere on a farm type location(manages an appropriate schedule).

people in the same or nearby geographical location can mix something up.

rules? who's waiting for rules? it's west fest. it's self explanatory. I shot my short yesterday and put 9 hours into post today. I'm ADRing tomorrow, composing the score on wednesday and color correcting thursday. I should be done on saturday. kidding.
