Who in NY would pay say $20 to watch some AF100 footage on a movie screen?

I can see renting a place to see how it looks on a big screen, But from my experience I can tell you anything can be cinematic enough for a blow up. We know mini dv(sd) was fine on the big screen, the xha1, and others were fine in crank2. So there should be no issue with this cam.

100% agreed, the idea for this cam from my frustration in proving to the masses that we've had enough quality even since SD days. that, and could be a fun event and networking :)

an idea just popped into my head, see what you all think: At the moment we're talking $10 a person, each person can bring a minute of footage, how about going a step further and saying each person can bring up to 5 minutes of footage, and paying $10 for each minute they bring? I think that can get us into a theater a bit faster. if we end up with a surplus i'll see about some prizes and a voting system.

And because i'm a marketing enthusiast, which do you prefer, "MinuteFest" or "TestFest" :)

Well this was unexpected... A sponsor just may have stepped forward to provide us with the screening room! No doubt because of the enthusiasm of everyone here, i'll update when i've spoken with them and confirmed details, but it does look like we'll be getting into a theater sooner rather than later!

While i'm working that out, there is the question of format and organization that i would like some input on, the focus of the event will be the af100, but it would be nice to have some other competing camera footage as well, and i think we'll have submission categories that look like this...

each category has subcategories: High Light, Low Light, Fast Action, Rolling shutter, moire/alaising

AF100
DSLR(any)
Sub 10K cameras(ex1/3,XLH1, HVX)
Over 10K cameras(F3, red, Si-2k)

i'm working on more things i'll post soon, but everyones input is encouraged to make this event as useful as it can be.

cheers!

It's official: Abel Cine has stepped up to sponsor this event!

Since the cost of the venue is now covered, the cost to everyone can be technically zero, though i know from experience a free event can be dicey, so for that, what would everyone think of a $5 admission, and funds to go towards giveaways/prizes?

Starting a new thread for this, so please post there instead!

Give aways, prizes, and perhaps donating towards some 501c3 that does work with underprivileged youth? Just an idea...

I would in a heart beat pay 20. This is the way to go. See what the footage looks like before you scrounge up money to get a feature made with this equipment, only to have it look like crap later on the big screen??? This is the way to go Darren. I'm in California; can't make it. can't wait to see such footage though. 20 bucks is far cheaper than renting a place for 600.

What are people using for encoding to H264? I tried squeeze set for 30 mbs/sec and I'm still getting some jumpy frames on slow movement. Squeeze won't allow any rates higher than 30mbs from what I see.

Sadly, I will not be attending. Something unfortunate came up, and I will not be able to make it up to the city. I would love to hear how my footage played, if someone can report back. Thanks again for the opportunity. and Keep making high quality work.

Aw just saw this, thinking of going but I cant still reserve a seat online for the lower price? Door only now?
