T2i White balance (dslr noob)

How do you guys white balance for vid (or stills)?

Should I just be shooting a pic of some foamcore board in the predominant light and then white balance off that picture or am I missing some easier trick?

The white balance selector only seems to be available in certain modes??

You need to take a pic of a white card, or paper, in the current lighting conditions. Then in Movie mode, in the menu, you locate the WHITE BALANCE option, then choose it...choose the picture that you took, and that will be the CUSTOM white balance. That is the two triangles flanking a square. Then you set the camera from AWB to that custom setting and there you go.
