I want to buy some white balance cards for my dvx...and i heard that home depot paint samplers work fine. Which ones should i get? like the exact colour ID's

i saw once something like a key chain with rectangular white, gray, black cards. but did not find one yet,

you can get white, black, 50% gray, 18% gray, that should do it.

kodak makes white balance cards by the way.

Paint swatches can be used for creative, but extreme, white balancing for intentional color shifts. Porta Brace sells standard white cards, and they're not that expensive. For warm/cool balance, you need only hold a swatch of CTO or CTB gel in front of the lens before you balance.

I carry one of these for warm/cool balance:

Or you can go all out and get a premium set of balance cards:

not sure, you can order from kodak whatever you want, sometimes you can find something at amazon, make sure it's not a chart, or something too big, they make small ones that are more practical, you can find the 18% gray easily i guess, and it can be enough for you if you wouldn't use the white and black ones.

I'll second that. Very handy to have on set, especially when you want to tweak the cool/warm feelings of a certain scene.

If you check the last link I posted, they're the same set of cards, only through Filmtools.com rather than direct from the manufacturer.

The only reason I mention this is that two other people have now (very quickly) responded with the same suggestion, which I believe speaks to their value. Yeah, it's a bit more of an investment ($5 for the PortaBrace white card vs. $80 for the WarmCard 2.0 set), but sometimes you just have to weigh the benefit of the investment.

While I carry the PB card and the Rosco swatch book in my own camera kit, I've used the WarmCards on other sets and locations and they are very well designed. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the WarmCard set.

Add another tally for WarmCards.
