How to Make a Movie in 10 Days...or not

I've finally gotten a reprieve from work and I'm going to have a go at submitting a drama-fest entry on January 31st. I have no delusions that whatever I come up with will be very good, but I haven't done anything "creative" with my camera since sci-fest, so I just can't sit another one out. I'm not going to let you guys have all the fun.

I have a pretty wacky concept, but that's about it. I work fairly well under pressure, so I gave myself this timeline right after I got the idea and decided not even to start the script until midnight tonight, or right after I throw up this post. It's going to be a pretty crazy schedule over the next 10 days, and I'll keep track of the craziness here in the thread for anyone who's interested.

So, this will either work out and I'll have a decent entry, or it will fail miserably and I will end up with something pretty crappy. Hey, it's only 10 days of my life, right? Either way, I'll submit whatever I've got.

Woohoo!

Now I've got a script to go write...
Stay tuned :)

Well, I started shooting with 10 days left. I already had a script, though.

Should be fun. Good Luck!

Worked on the script a lot last night, but I still don't have it rock solid. There's a couple different places, "forks in the road" for the characters, if you will, where the plot could go in several directions and I can't decide which direction is truest to the story.

My wife has been a great sounding board, though. The script HAS to be completed tonight.

I took a break to get my creative juices flowing and went out looking for some locations. Added photos at the top of the thread. Obviously they're HEAVILY messed with in post. I wanted to set the look of the story and I think I came pretty close. It's a start, anyway.

I'm guessing the theme of the story is probably pretty evident at this point. :)

I like the look. It is great to see people experimenting. Best of luck with the final touches of your script.

Thanks ecarr and Jon for poking your heads in. And yeah, I'll need all the luck I can get!

Also:

To any who are interested, since I've got scriptwriting on the brain (I keep forgetting to post these links) here are a couple of screenwriting sites I've found to be interesting and helpful over the last year or two.

http://www.1000dollarfilm.com/

And specifically about sceenwriting for a short film:

Check them out if you get the chance.

Hey Geoff, thanks!

I still have a little more prep, but the plan is to shoot in the evenings, Wednesday through Friday. I am certain I'll have some shots to pick up, which I'll go through on Saturday. Leaving a total of what, four days for post? ...laughs nervously....

Well, I knew this would be a little nuts. Certainly not the ideal way to turn out the highest quality product, but we'll see how it goes :)

Thanks Ted! BTW, I love the new banner. Every time I look at the front of that plane though, I swear I see a crazy face of a guy with a moustache, a la Cars or Thomas the Tank Engine. Maybe I'm going crazy.....Too many late nights...:)

Thanks man! I know, this couldn't be MORE last minute! I'm kind of starting to freak out, but I'm having fun all the same.

Funny... my wife is always saying, "I love that plane.... it has a face!"

Good luck on your project. Looks interesting.
Thanks Rebecca! Looking forward to another collaboration from you and Norm, as well!

Your poster is pretty cool, Jared. What software will you use to grade/color enhance your project?
Glad you like it, Ignatius! I'll be using Final Cut Pro. I'm not thrilled with the color tools in the suite, but hopefully I can get the final look I want!

Oh man...Just got the Spiderbrace 2 in the mail and I am LOVING it! This thing is amazing!!!

I would have liked to go for one of the dvpro rigs, but I gotta say, for 79 bucks, this thing doesn't disappoint. The company I work for uses DSR450's and I've gotten really used to the shoulder mounted style of shooting...To the point where I couldn't REALLY enjoy shooting with the dvx as much when I'd get home. I'd been tossing around the idea of a shoulder mount system for a while and finally sprang for something cheap to get a feel for it. Well, the added stability and control is pretty phenomenal. All because of a couple of pieces of bent pvc....Yikes.

And yes, this is for The Fallout Children. I think I'll be using it nonstop for the rest of the shoot!

I'm probably just really late to the game for this piece of gear, but seriously, if you want a cheap shoulder mount, go buy one of these right now. :)
