C300: white and greay cards - what u recomend?

I'm currently using the Vortex white card (sometimes use the cool cards, not the warm cards these days).

They're okay - robust, little chain makes them sort of stand up with a bit of persuasion.

Way back, on a course with Christina Fox, we had a 'white out' test - doing a WB on white clothing, copier paper, a notionally 'white' wall, and what appeared to be an incredibly expensive bit of white card from DSC Labs. The DSC Labs card won hands down (from my point of view as an editor). You could see a much better balance even on a Z1's flip out screen. In FCP it was glorious. So, I became an instant fan. It really helped in difficult situations like mixed office lighting.

I think there's stuff in laundry powers and in paper treatments to 'brighten' whites which skew the colour balance slightly. My wife used to work in a paints company and I won't bore you about 'shades of white'... The biggest benefit of the DSC Labs white card was a very natural (dare I say 'rich') skin tone.

I did unfortunately lose it on a shoot, and replaced it with the Vortex cards. As I said, they're tough, more portable, slightly larger, but not quite as good as the DSC Labs. If something were to happen to them ("oh dear, how sad, never mind"), I'd replace with DSC.

x-rite makes a grey card that is a light shade of neutral gray. I prefer these cards to anything else I've found so far. They have given me the best white balances and skin tones with a number of very different cameras.

got my self a Vortex 3.0 ! mostly because its not that expansive..... but man is it great or is it great?! - i would say a must have tool!
