Hi Guys,

I'm using a 17-55 2.8 Canon lens on my 7D. I would like to by a Wide Lens now.

At the moment I have this lens on focus: Tokina 11-16mm.

What would you buy for around 800$ ?

Hope this is not a stupid question :=)

I'd recommend the Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8 because its such a great lens but unfortunately it's quite a bit more than $800.

Hi Finnegan. If there is Much deference comparing to tokina I shoul think about it yes. Could you and other guys help to compare it?

Tokina 11-16mm

Canon 16-35

There aren't many choices for an f2.8 wider than 16mm.
The Tokina is fast, sharp, and has a high resale value.
Perfect match to add to your 17-55 f2.8 as well.
Also will work at 15mm/16mm on a FF 5D if you go that route.
Can't really go wrong with the Tokina.

Hi Guys,

I need more opinions. The Canon 16-35 is to expensive :=(

I have a Canon 17-55mm 2.8 and a Nikor 50mm 1.4

I would like to choose one of these:

- Sigma 30mm 1.4
It would be nice for making shots on low light situations.

- Tokina 11-16 2.8
It would be a nice Range because I have 17-55

WHich one OMG :=) HELPPPPP

Tokina 11-16mm is an amazing lens, buy it! If for whatever reason you do not like it, you can sell it easily as this lens holds it's value. Sigma 30mm 1.4 is another nice lens, but it is really not that wide. The main advantage of the Sigma is the 1.4 aperture, but if I had a choice between the Sigma and the Tokina then it would be the Tokins hands down. You would still have $200 left over which you can invest in a nice led light or just put it in the safe for anything you need in the future.

Hi Guys,

ok ok :=)

Here in Switzerland this lens costs 700 USD. I will google it for a grreat price in usa :=)

Of course you can tell me your secret pages :=)

another vote for the tokina. Duclos lenses in LA converts the mount on these to use on a film camera or a red/alexa. Thats how good they are.

11-16mm f2.8 Tokina.

This lens is good on land and underwater.

Theres enough here to vouch for it on land.

For underwater, all shots underwater in this ad used this lens.

It compensates for water magnification.

On the 7D, the Tokina 11-16/2.8 is pretty well the best choice out there, but it can be hard to find. The Sigma 10-20/3.5 would be a reasonable alternative.

The Sigma 30/1.4 isn't wide at all, it's the equiv of a "standard 50mm" lens. It's great for low light tho.

The Canon EF 16-35/2.8L is only 1mm wider than your 17-55/2.8IS... not a good choice on a 7D.

The 30 1.4 is a great lens but it's not a wide-angle on a 7D :) I want one though.

Canon makes a 10-22 f3.5-4.5 as well. It's not as fast as the Tokina and has variable f-stop, which would annoy you if you were trying to zoom. But it's arguably got better optics, and it is 9% wider. The Tokina 11-16 has a touch of chromatic aberration (CA), which has been discussed and shown a bit in this lens forum. CA is easy to get rid of in stills but more difficult in video. If you point the lens at a light you will see it. The Canon doesn't have this issue.

However, all-in-all I would still vote for the Tokina. I used one on an outdoor shoot, it's really sharp and stupid-wide. I shot indoors with it as well at night at f2.8 at iso800 with no problems. The f2.8 is nice to have.
