You might also want to consider if you are/will be traveling a lot. I did a cross country trip with my hvx and the pcmcia slot was critical! So I went the pc path. Just ordered a new sony viao and am waiting for it!
 
I got the Sony SZ340, 2.0GHz and custom configured it for 100GB 7200rpm.

I waited for the MBp to go C2D, and was hoping for the off chance they'd put back the pcmcia slot, but no such luck. Check out this thread by Jeremy7 and Barry, which I found very informative. Thanks to those guys.

is the sz340 the same as the VGN-SZ3XP/C (screen size 13.3")?
if not where can I find the spec on the sony site of the SZ340

It's actually close enough that they might let me spill the beans. I'll check with them.

Any frame rate, resolution mixed on the same timeline, convert to most any format including Flash and real time! Storyboard and Timeline. Another Swiss Army type tool.

Nice, but on their website, it doesn't specifically state that it takes P2 / MXF / DVCProHD material. Do you have some "inside" information from them that it will or does?
