Which HD cam? (yes, another one...)

Denwa:

You are in Kelowna... I used to live in BC but now I'm in Toronto (still cheer for the Canucks!). Did our customs not tax you to death from buying in the US?

.

No Duty but sales tax. Still came to around 4 grand CAD which is $1000 dollars less than the lowest Canadian price plus I would have tpo pay tax on that as well. I even managed to sign up for a Canadian warranty. I was prepared to have a US warranty and mail it to the US but this worked out.

If you ship it UPS make usre it is express worldsaver etc NOT ground. UPS does not charge "brokerage fees" on express. They do charge a 2.9% bond fee on the tax you owed though. Which isn't that bad.

As for the rebates, I'm not that far from the border (1.5 hrs) and there is a service down there that I can have things mailed to.

Oddly enough, that cam is duty free, but a spare battery isn't. Still over all you save a lot of money buying from the US.

Thanks Denwa this info is infinitely useful in my decision making process. At Vistek.ca down the street where I live they sell the HMC for $5600CAD.... and they don't even have a holiday sale!

This is a real deal. email price = 4799. $500 rebate. P2 card included.

Other places like Spec-Com will most likely match this.

Hey sorry to bring up my old thread. I am still looking to buy an HD cam. And this HPX deal from B&H now is even better. Put it on the cart and it comes to $4139 AND you get a 16G P2 card (and Barry's book!!) I have enough money left over for a 32G P2 card!
effking deal huh??

The only debate on cameras at this price point is the new Sony NX vs. the 150. I assume the 150 will be updated because of the Sony to dual cards by end of year. These are the only two cameras worth considering at that price level, unless you step up to 170 using P2,which I think, if you have the budget, is worth doing. But you have thousands invested in Panny accessories you say, why throw that stuff away if you move to Sony? You'll sell it cheap and replace it at high cost...

If you really want to spend $5k for a camera, then do the 170 so you get the 4:2:2. While I own the 150, I didn't want to spend $5k. So the 170 was out of the question.

Good logic about accessories costs from switching brands. I have several DVX batteries and a on-cam light that I can use for the HPX so I'm saving money there already. Plus - I'll likely stay with the P2 product line once I do buy the HPX, which is just moments away...
