Hi everybody,
We were thinking to buy the HVX 200 + let us and canon FD lenses , but becuase people who pay the documentary wants more now we are thinking to buy the HPX 500. We are in a poor budget and one of the shops in Spain offers us a pack of HPX 500 + canon YJ20X8.5KRS that is not a CAC lense.
Has anybody work with lenses that are non CAC? Is it going to give us a images problem? Are there any CAC lense cheap?
Thanks
Pablo

I'd definitely recommend a CAC lens over non-CAC. A cheap lens is going to mean purple & green chromatic aberrations. The CAC lenses fix that problem cheaply; a normal HD lens fixes it expensively.

Hi , i just tested the HPX with a YJ18x9 B4 SD-Lens.

Yes - you can see the limitations easily - the pic isnt as "crisp" as possible and the sharpness gets lost towards the borders (especially left / right). If you want a plain / full sharp 16:9 picture this is the wrong way to go... unfortunately...

Its also because these lenses have never been developed for 16:9 - the 4:3 is okay - but this isnt the idea of HD framing either... so 2 bad news for an SD lens on a HD cam.

If you want to start with a SD lens dont try an HD lens - as soon as you see the difference you are magically torn into HD Lens business ;-) , purchase I mean ;-))

Thanks to all of you.
It is clear than the very cheap things can come expensive. So we will think in get more money to the lens
Best regards

HD cheap lens vs CAC lens?

HD cheap lens vs CAC lens?

Hi again,
One more question, OK, it is clear that al least I should buy a CAC but the question is if somebody offers me a HD lens, which one will match better with the HPX, the CAC or the HD lens? For example there is some HD cheap lens that could compete in price with CAC lens, KJ20x8.5B KRS the canon is about 6000 euros.
Thanks.

CAC lenses *are* HD lenses.

A cheap HD lens (without CAC) is likely going to exhibit nasty purple/green fringing. CAC fixes that. So a CAC lens is better than a cheap non-CAC lens.

If you want to start talking about $30,000+ HD lenses, yes those'll probably be better than the CAC lenses. But for cheap, it's the very existence of CAC that makes cheap lenses usable.
