Hi Guys,

I'm using: 7D + Canon EF-S 17-55mm 2.8 IS USM

When I'm outside and is a sunny day i have to play with the shutterspeed and apperture. But that's not the right way.

Which Filter would you suggest me to control de Light when I'm outside on a sunny day without to change Shutterspeed or Apperture?

Please tell me the exact name and model. Links are welcome of course.

I found these one. Are there ok. Wich one?

B+W Pola-Filter zirkular 77mm
Hoya Pro 1 Digital Pol. Circular Filter 77mm

Thank you

Check this out:

http://www.amazon.com/Tiffen-77mm-Neutral-Density-Filter/dp/B00004ZCIC

Tiffen ND filters are great, and you'd most likely want to get something in this range or a three filter set (0.9, 0.6, 0.3) but for the money (check out the price at the bottom of the page (like 125$ or more for the set) you might want to make due with the one... I'd get a mattebox, in the long run you'll most likely be wanting one anyway.

Hope this helps!

Hi Thank you.

1) What does it mean the values 0.3 or 06 or 0.9

2) It's not possible to archive the same objective with only one Filter like this: Hoya Pro 1 Digital Pol. Circular Filter 77mm?

Hi,

can somebody help?

Start with 0.9 which is dark. I believe it's 4 stops but I'll look it up. Most bang for the buck. You can ad on lighter NDs later. Honestly a Circular PL filter is the most essential filter to have because of it's ability to dial out reflections from things like shooting through windows, water reflections, and the most important darkening values in blue skys. PL filters will buy you 1.5 or 2 stops depending on which direction it is turned.
Look in used bins at camera shops for filters or thrift shops. They are very cheap to try out. I have a pile of great lens hoods and filters I've collected over the years for 5 bucks or less. My favorite rubber lens hood is a 77mm from a Mamiya 6X7 in a bin on 42nd st NYC for $5. I use it on my 550D.

Sorry it took me so long to get back, I must of missed this thread. the 0.9 is 3 stops, the 0.6 is 2 the 0.3 is 1. ROCKMORE is right the PL filter is essential to shooting, just always remember to buy good glass (lenses, filters etc...) you never want to introduce things into your image that will soften or degrade the image if you can help it. I only use Tiffen filters, I trust the quality and have never had a bad one yet. Hope this helps-Adam

0.9 is 3 stops,

0.9 / 3 stops. Thanks for the correction.

agreed on good quality glass, but still useful to try used bin items to experiment for cheap. You can always upgrade to a new premium filter when you know exactly what you want and need.
For example I bought a whole set of color grad filters a few years ago thinking they would be useful but never used them.
