Ok, well I did months and months of research before buying my first video DSLR about 8 months ago. (D90), and have since upgraded to the 7D.

I know many of you here are very meticulous about your research before buying, using the cameras first, renting, etc... etc...

So which would you say is the best option overall for a film maker? (I'm not talking about which is better over the Red One, or HVX, im purely talking which one is the best compared to each other).

There seems to be some inconsistancies in the general opinion, and im wondering if those are just due to people feeling what they bought is better, or if its an actual objective viewpoint.

if your shooting in low light then the 5DmkII would be the best pick IMO.

are you already invested in glass from any of the companies?

lack of 24p might be an issue for you which would rule out the 5DmkII. its not a problem for me though.

i owned the 7D for a few weeks and took it back. for me it didnt stack up to the IQ compared to the 5DmkII for photos or video. it looked really good on paper though and the price is nice.

7D shoots 60fps in 720p mode. i really wanted the feature more than anything. unfortunately there is more "aliasing/morie" in this mode rendering it too dangerous for me to use in many important situations. too bad because id love to have that mode in a DSLR.

Nikon seems to have more jello than the canons but all have serious jello. you just need to be aware. not usually a problem if your careful.

no experience with the Gh1. ive seen some good videos with it and seen bad as well like any of the bodies. i guess the "mud" is a factor with the GH1?

do you have any attachments to FF vs crop? to get wide on the canon you will more than likely have to buy an EF-S type lens.

ive seen good stuff done will all of the cameras you mentioned. the 7D was the cheapest camera i ever bought. i own a D3, 1DmkIIn, 1DmkIII & the 5DmkII. i really wanted to like the 7D (for photography & video) but when it came to IQ it just fell short in every way compared to the 5DmkII plus EX1 & HMC150. i am probably spoiled by my other cameras. if money is a factor then the 7D is really good for the price. if you looking for the best IQ then the 5DmkII is the best choice from your list....of course IMHO.

Of course it is...

No offense, but this thread is useless.

They're all equally garbage. The rest you can find out in other threads, there's no need to start one that'll OBVIOUSLY produce yet another textual battle royale.

If you already have one, then shoot.

The Gh1 is the best bescause it is the smallest

The D3s is the best because it had FF chip and no AGC

The 7 is the best because is has many frame trates

The 5d is the best because it has a big chip and great image

so none of them

Can't you just check out the facts, some videos and then decide which one is most suited for you? Or were your mom and pop such helicopter parents that they failed to teach you how make up your own mind?

No offense why do people still put the D90 on a pedestal? Both Pentax hybrids and the Oly E-P2 AND GF1 TRUMP it for video

I thought we already established that they were all equally rated PG in some form or fashion?
