Is there a good but not pricey mattebox?

I have used the 'Matteblox' and while I think it's worth the money I'm looking for a more solid mattebox that isn't so expensive. Does such a combination exist? My friend has a legit pro box that cost about $500 to $700. I can't afford that.

Any advise or locations I can check out?

Thanks.

keeps out exess light, its essentialy an extended lens hood. it also holds filters and makes the camera look all that much seaxier.

What's the mattebox for? I'm a newbie.

Just to add to what Dory mentioned. Aside from there function, if you work with actors its amazing how much more serious they regard the shoot when they see a good size mattebot on the camera. Sounds crazy but it's true.
As great as these cameras are, without one the uninformed can think of them as some average home video cameras by appearence. Too bad there so crazy expensive.

Cavision make some real nice Matteboxes and are at a good price, you can buy direct from them but I think you can get them at a better price through B&H Photo.

Hi all !

I stumbled upon this indian cine company with this product http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160188331298&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

Has anybody purchased one for their DVX100 ? If so, can u please share your views on their design. They have a 72mm thread adaptor which will fit the DVX100 just fine.

I'm just a bit worried about the gap between the mattebox and the built-in DVX100 mic.

Well for one you shouldnt be using the built in mic anyway. But yes, they seem legit. For a mattebox, French flags AND rods, thats a DAMN good price.

Thanks for this help. Some very interesting choices here. That cine company box on e-bay looks very similar to the 'Indiesnap'.
