Where's your IMDb starmeter at?

Your starmeter should be much higher with all that talent and experience! I think it's because most people are only checking out producers/directors/actors. The average viewer probably isn't watching a show and going, wow that set design right there is amazing. I HAVE to know who did it. So in your category, it's likely just less searched. However, a better comparision might be to lookup some of your competition and see where their starmeter is versus yours.

As far as on the independent side, I think it's only the really serious filmmakers who even value set design. I've been on a few indie projects where they didn't even have anyone handling art direction/set design. It was pretty much, it looks good, lets shoot it here. My first few projects I valued it some but as I progressed I really valued it a lot more to the point where now I highly value art direction/set design. It's a critical part. I met with a two time academy award winning art director and we talked about it some.

I think you just need to get your name out there more, like I said earlier, I think it just really shows how well your name or brand is pushed around and can provide at least something you can track. But I'm sure you already know all that.

I think this will be my new smiley. He just has the look of "but you probably already knew that". :Drogar-SunGlass(DBG

Wow, I thought it'd be higher :D

Ah well... fun stuff :)
Well, see, that's the thing -- look at Karl's, it's ranged from #100,000 to #600,000 in the matter of a month. And I think the vast majority of people here on the forum would KILL to have Karl's resume.

No way to know what yours will be from week to week, or whether it matters... As far as I can guess, the starmeter is calculated based on the number of times your name pops up in a search. So if someone's searching for a project you've worked on, it's possible your name might pop up. If someone's searching the news, and an actor's name comes up, or they're searching for that actor, then that'll count as a "hit" that goes towards their starmeter. It doesn't really have anything to do with your past body of work, unless people are actively searching for you and for that past body of work. Any time an actor's name shows up in a news story, or they're nominated for an award, or they host a show or ... anything ... those "hits" all go towards their StarMeter.

Example: Taylor Lautner's StarMeter rating? #17. That puts him ahead of George Clooney, Robert DeNiro, Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Dustin Hoffman, Marlon Brando, Cary Grant, Sigourney Weaver, Charlize Theron, Meg Ryan, Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mel Gibson, Nicolas Cage...

Who the **** is Taylor Lautner, and what is his body of work that would warrant such an incredibly high ranking on the Starmeter? He's the werewolf in Twilight. That's about it. But Twilight is so incredibly popular, with so many searches and news stories and facebook pages and fan sites and everything, that Taylor Lautner, a 15-year-old kid, has a higher starmeter than the greatest actors in history. He even ranks higher than all the Harry Potter actors. In fact, who possibly could rank higher? Names such as #9 Robert Pattinson (who? Oh, yeah, Twilight again). And #11, Kristin Stewart (who? Oh, yeah, the girl in Twilight...)

So who, besides Twilight actors, is in the top 10? Well, the #1 highest starmeter is Zoe Saldena. Who? Oh, yeah, she's Neytiri in Avatar. Playing that role apparently qualifies you to be the #1 biggest star in the world.
Who's #2? Sam Worthington. Who? Oh, yeah, he's Jake in Avatar.
#3? Naomi Watts. Okay, a known actress, sure... but #3? Over everyone else I listed? Seriously?

#4? David Lynch. Okay, so it's David Lynch, but -- over Spielberg? Over James Cameron?

#5? Laura Harring. Who? I don't know. But she might have some amazing modeling page or something that drives tons of traffic.

At least three of the top 10 list "Mother and Child" as their latest project, so obviously that's generating a ton of buzz.

#10? James Cameron.

So how do you get a great Starmeter rating? Either work on Twilight, Avatar, or Mother and Child, and that'll pretty much guarantee you a top 10 spot...

In other words, it makes no sense as per a "deserved" ranking. It all depends on how much "buzz" you generate. Which, I guess, is all part of being a star, isn't it?

IMO It doesn't matter except for actors who can show they are getting a bit more buzz. filmmakers might use it as a way to entice investors "The lead will be sub 1000" etc.

Beyond that it's a trailing indicator of who is top of mind in the public an therefore "clicked on." Mackenzie Philips was #1 when she revealed she had sex with her father, Patrick Swayzie was #1 when he died of pancreatic cancer. A big release will catapult actors up the list etc.

I wonder if my starmeter jumped at all since NGL came out...
Skyrocketed -- it's at #168,739 now. But, to be fair, you again can't tell, week to week, because on Dec 27th you were at 166,947. And the week before that? 233,132. So it bounced up 70,000 points, then fell 200,000, then shot up 200,000 all in the space of a month.
